WE HOPE THAT YOU ALL HAVE AN ENJOYABLE AND SUCCESSFUL DAY’S RACING OUR NEXT MEETING
A very warm welcome to you all from the team here at Newton Abbot Racecourse, your support is very much appreciated and valued and we hope you all have an enjoyable and successful evening’s racing with us.
Our thanks go to our sponsors here today who are the William Hill, Olympus Plant & Tool Hire, execontainers, St Austell Brewery, Sun Racing and Racing to School We hope that everyone enjoys their evening with us.
As it’s Friday night, make sure you stay behind after racing and watch a brilliant performance from local band Electric Empire up in the Paddock Bar where everyone is welcome. Enjoy the party in the Paddock!
Today is an excellent and competitive evening’s racing and we have lots more exciting racing coming up soon too! Our next fixture is our revamped Ladies Night on 23rd June when after a great evening you can chose to watch local band Harbour in the Paddock Bar or watch England play Ghana in the World Cup on our big screen straight after racing finishes. Plus there’s the fun of the best dressed and best hat competitions with a mix of fabulous prizes and great support from the likes of St Austell, Murray VW, the Passage House and Hoopers.
Next month sees another three fixtures- the 3rd, 13th and then Sunday 19th July which is a fabulous family day featuring the Rowcroft Hospice Mascot Race, for which entries are now open. In addition to Blaze and the other mascots we’ll have face painting, jugglers, fairies, inflatables, play park, hook a duck, human fruit machine and more!
Don’t forget too that Newton Abbot Racecourse is open all year round for events, special occasions, conferencing and much more, check out our events calendar on the website or drop us a line or give us a call if you have a specific enquiry or want to hold your event here.
Finally thank you again for all your support through thick and thin, it is hugely appreciated and valued and we hope to see you again soon (please see our full fixture list later in this racecard). Have a great day

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

HORSE WELFARE AT NEWTON ABBOT
At every race meeting held at Newton Abbot Racecourse there are three veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. All three veterinary surgeons have specific expertise in the treatment of thoroughbreds and racing injuries
One vet will attend the Start and then follow the race in his/her vehicle in order to attend, fallen, lame or pulled up horses. A second vet will watch the horses in the Parade Ring and as they leave for the Start. This vet will then also follow the race in his/her vehicle to attend to any further incidents of fallen, lame or pulled up horses. The third vet will be on duty to attend to any incidents in the Stable Yard, or to treat injuries from previous races that have returned to the Stables. If the third vet is not required in the Stables during a race he/she will view the race from the steps to the “Old Press Box”, where they have a good view of the whole track, and are on hand as the horses pull up after the race
If all three vets are occupied treating horses, the BHA Veterinary Officer(s) on duty can be called upon to aid.
Whenever possible, at least one of the veterinary surgeons should be present in the Unsaddling Enclosure after each race
USE OF SCREENS
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse when receiving veterinary attention. This does not reflect the severity of any injury but allows the vet some privacy and the horse a calm environment in which to make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around an injured/fallen horse.
