Newton Abbot Racecard - Wednesday 30th October

Page 1

ON BEHALF OF THE DIRECTORS , SHAREHOLDERS AND STAFF , I AM DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU TO NEWTON ABBOT FOR OUR FINAL FIXTURE OF THE SEASON..

The Racing Industry continues to have many challenges. Summer has been under the microscope.

Other challenges have been small fields.

For so long there have been discussions and disagreements about whether racecourses are putting in enough money Most of us can prove we are making very good contributions to the Industry.

Newton Abbot has been very productive with Prize Money each season, with good fields on all days.

Although this is our last race meeting the racecourse will still be very busy out of season with a wealth of events.

Saturday 9 November is our last Antiques & Collectables Fair this year we will have 45 stalls inside selling a wide range of eclectic items. The week after on Saturday 16 November we have our indoor and outdoor Flea Market where we have 82 stalls inside selling pre loved items. At the end of November we have our wonderful Christmas Fayre with 70 inside stalls, 20 outside market stalls and this year we have an additional Christmas Village with 40 stable stalls, so lots to choose from. Newton Abbot Flower Club return to do their wreath making and Choir 86 will serenade our visitors in our café. For the children a face painter, snow globe and reinpony rides will be available along with a find the Elves competition with the winning family having the chance to have breakfast with Santa at Dartmoor Zoo.

We look forward to a wide range of events in 2025 including 7 Antiques & Collectables Fairs including a Classic Car Show in June, Valentine’s Dinner, Murder Mystery event, Craft Gift & Food Fair, Wellbeing Show and our big Country Show For details of all our events please visit our website.

Today is my last raceday at Newton Abbot after 34 years. I have been very fortunate to have a supportive Board of Directors over the years and a great team of staff to work with. I wish my successor every success.

I also wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible racegoers. Your support and enthusiasm drives everything we do.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

MR GREY SKY won first time up last season and is taken to repeat the feat with the Kim Bailey team in form. Chase newcomer Royal Jewel is a potentially dangerous opponent, particularly if the betting vibes are strong. Joe Tizzard was among the winners over the weekend and his course hurdle scorer Western General could also play a part if a wind operation has had a positive effect.

ROYAL MER: Following its run on 19/4/2024 it was reported that the horse ran flat.

VOCITO has been prolific since joining Olly Murphy and is taken to go in again. Celtic Art has returned to the mark he defied at Lingfield at a similar time last year and is second choice ahead of Pirates’ Tale. Major Fortune should have even more to offer this season but the drop back to around 2m is a concern given his improvement last term came over much longer trips. TIMEFORM
