A Year of growth and engagement.

Newton Abbot Racecourse has seen significant growth across its digital platforms in 2024.

As of August, the racecourse has reached more than 1.7 million people on social media, a 35% increase compared to the same period last year. This expanded reach has been accompanied by a boost in social media followers, with more than 1,000 new followers joining the community, reflecting a 25% growth year-over-year These numbers underscore the growing interest among racing enthusiasts in the South West.

Our website has also seen growth. So far this year, more than 155,000 people have visited our site, compared to 120,000 visitors this time last year This 29% increase in web traffic highlights the effectiveness of our promotional strategies in drawing more visitors to learn more about racing.

Another key aspect of Newton Abbot Racecourse’s marketing strategy is the monthly newsletter, which provides subscribers with the latest news, events, promotions, and essential information about racing. The newsletter has steadily grown in popularity, it now has 3,500 subscribers, up 17% from last year

Moreover, the racecourse has solidified its presence online, particularly on Facebook, where it has become the joint most-followed racecourse in the South West.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible racegoers. Your support and enthusiasm drives everything we do.

We look forward to many more great moments together at Newton Abbot Racecourse!

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

PLAY SMARTER

TRIBAL GLORY made a promising start in bumpers last summer and although he’s not been seen since, his stable’s runners rarely lack for fitness, so he looks one to keep on the right side now switching to hurdling. Sirekoff bumped into one that’s gone in again since at Downpatrick in June and looks a big player on his first start for David Pipe, with Junior des Mottes, a stablemate of the selection, another to consider

SOIR DE GALA could have plenty more to come on the back of his Stratford chase debut success and can prove too strong for much older and more exposed opposition.
