ON BEHALF OF THE DIRECTORS, SHAREHOLDERS AND STAFF, I AM DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU TO NEWTON ABBOT FOR THE LAST FIXTURE OF OUR SEASON. We would like to thank today’s race sponsors and hope they have a great day with usAs part of British racing’s industry strategy, fundamental changes to how the fixture list will be structured, promoted and presented from 2024 have been agreed. At the heart of this is the creation of a segmented fixture list comprising two clearly defined tiers of fixtures: Premier fixtures will provide a more readily identifiable top end of the sport and seek to ensure that racing’s best events are positioned and presented to drive increased customer engagement. Core fixtures comprise the bulk of the fixture list and aim to produce a consistently competitive product, designed to appeal to racegoers and bettors. Scheduling will be closely linked to recent changes in betting including growth in the proportion of bets placed via digital platforms, whilst also acknowledging the continued importance of retail bettors to the sport. It is anticipated that, with improved customer insight, there will be further enhancements in future years and therefore this should be viewed as the beginning of an iterative process. Premier fixtures will be staged in two distinct seasons, programmed on the flat between mid-April and October, and over jumps between November and mid-April. The Premier fixture list will comprise a maximum of two such fixtures on Saturdays, as well as midweek festivals and a number of enhanced Sunday meetings. Premier fixtures will be broadcast on ITV, increasing the number of meetings covered on terrestrial television, subject to contractual discussions. They will have a minimum total prize money offering and include an agreed number of higher-class races. With all races run at a Premier fixture offering prize money above a specified floor, significantly increased minimum values will ensure a boost to race values at these meetings. There has also been focus on ensuring that racing’s Core fixtures, which comprise the bulk of the fixture list, are supported and strengthened to grow their appeal to customers. Following the end of the season last year, the racecourse has undergone some big changes and improvements aimed at enhancing the customer experience for all racegoers. This includes building a new state of the art cellar to ensure the customers have a better experience at the bars. This cellar connects with the three main bars - the Tribute bar, Paddock bar and Thatcher’s bar. We have installed solar panels within the racecourse to help the high energy costs, and created a new canter down for the horses to the 2mile 5 furlong start. Newton Abbot will continue to invest in prize money at all classes during this season. We thank you for attending today’s meeting, your support is very much appreciated We wish all Owners and Trainers with a runner here today every success. Best wishes,

LAST MEETING REVIEW |MONDAY 2ND OCOTBER 2023
Our penultimate meeting of this season got underway with the Aubrey Loze 11 memorial Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, with Iceo asserting their dominance as market favourite by making all. This Coastal Path offspring showed shear talent has the jumped with ease and went on to win by 12 lengths to the nearest competitor. Another show of talent was seen in the next as Foxey, another favourite again made all, jumping nicely, he however was tested by Idilico. He dug deeper under conditional jockey Lewis Stones to go eight lengths clear two jumps from home and was pushed out in the run in. Idicilco and the rest of the field tired quickly in the testing conditions and saw Olly Murphy train this comfortable winner. Idilico and Ocean Reach finished second and third respectively. The winning distance of the next was much reduced and saw a shock winner come in as a massive outsider at 50/1. The five-year-old grey took control of the race leading from the start with Roger Pol and
Prince Imperial prominent in behind. He struggled not always being able to jump straight but after the last he seemed to find a rhythm keeping going on well and Roger Pal

couldn’t pick up enough to truly challenge. 3 The fourth race the Weatherbys Handicap Chase was a three mile and two-furlongs contest. The eventual winner Jet Plane was slow to start as Bells Of Peterboro and Innisfree Lad were both fighting over the lead. After four out he made headway and in the scrappiness of the third he was stopped making headway. Investment Manager the eventual second had too struggled with in the early stages but both had a good run in to finish placing. Jet Plane kept on strongly and was too

much for the challenging Investment Manager and extended his win to just over three lengths. Bells Of Peterboro finished third despite his quick start and errors in jumping. The fifth race it was back to favourites winning as Coal Fire under Sean Bowen won handily. Fortunate Fred led in the early stages but was nearly let down due some inconsistent jumping. Before three out Fortunate Fred had increased the tempo as the majority of the field were

making headway. With two out Coal Fire took over the lead and despite rallying from Fortunate Fred he was unable to catch the winner. The penultimate race secured Sean Bowen a double as Rambo T narrowly held on from Shallow River. After running vastly different races, in the closing stages Rambo T began to lead as Shallow River was left later picking up approaching the last. Shallow River was unlucky to lose out by a neck as he kept on well to Rambo T who just did enough. The final race of the day was a Mares’ Novice Handicap Hurdle in which Kym Eyre was always prominent to Caitlin’s Court despite sweating took the lead. Going into the third she didn’t look like being caught however Kym Eyre was ridden out by Isabel Williams and had enough to give challenge going into the last. She managed to head the long time leader and secure the win for the three pound claimer and Evan Williams which PHOTOS: 1 - KYM EYRE (IRE) 2 - RAMBO T (IRE) 3 - FOXEY 4 - ICEO (FR)

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE THREE
FARNOGE won his sole outing in bumpers with fair bit in hand and, being a half-brother to smart hurdler Hawk High, he makes plenty of appeal now his attentions are turned to jumping. Flying Fortune was a shade underwhelming on her recent hurdling debut at PLAY SMARTER Worcester but is clearly capable of better based on her bumper exploits, with newcomer Spinnaker Blue also worthy of respect.
