ON BEHALF OF THE DIRECTORS, SHAREHOLDERS AND STAFF , I AM DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU TO NEWTON ABBOT FOR OUR SEVENTH FIXTURE OF THE SEASON
We would like to thank today’s race sponsors and hope they have a great day with us- newtonabbotracing.com, Talk Tidy Marketing, Newton Abbot Racecourse on Facebook, Peninsula Finance PLC, Sky Sports Racing Sky 415, Peninsula Finance PLC, newtonabbotracing.com.
Following the end of the season last year, the racecourse has undergone some big changes and improvements aimed at enhancing the customer experience for all racegoers. This includes building a new state of the art cellar to ensure the customers have a better experience at the bars. This cellar connects with the three main bars - the Tribute bar, Paddock bar and Thatcher’s bar. We have installed solar panels within the racecourse to help the high energy costs, and created a new canter down for the horses to the 2mile 5 furlong start.
The Racing Industry faces many challenges currently, Summer Jumping is under the microscope as the majority of Trainers and Jockeys want a greater break in the calendar. This will hurt those Summer Jumping racecourses who have changed their business models and others will have to. Other challenges include small fields in races, the cost of transport to get horses to the racecourses, and diesel costs. Newton Abbot will continue to invest in prize money at all classes during this season.
We thank you for attending today’s meeting, your support is very much appreciated.
We wish all Owners and Trainers with a runner here today every success.
Best wishes,

The exciting day of racing was kick started as Sylvies Dance took the first with prominent run under five-poundclaimer Mr Joshua Newman. The nine-year-old mare led after the turn in following the third out. Basford provided challenge approaching the last but Sylvies Dance managed to dig deep and win by a head to the favourite. The second race was a Class Three with Fergal O’Brien’s Dancila winning by over two lengths and he was never in doubt. Paddy Brennan kept the gelding prominent and took over the lead from Aliomaana at two out. Dancila was clear going into the last and never looked under much pressure.
Cresswell Queen took the first Handicap Chase of the day, despite a bit of a struggle with her jumping. She was in the chasing group but caught up at the 15th jump before stumbling at the next. However, after three out Harry Reed had to be pushed along. A great ride from Reed and trouble back in second as Investment Manager jumped left-handed, allowed Cresswell Queen to stay on for the win by one-and-aquarter lengths.
Good Impression thrived on this slight step up in trip for Bernard Llewellyn and jockey Ben Jones as he kept to task one- and three-quarter lengths. An early lead was taken
over the hurdles by Tally’s Son and was largely unchallenged until three out as Good Impression made headway alongside Professor Calculus. At two out more pressure was from Good Impression on the leading pair and going into the last he headed the long-time leader Tally’s Son to claim the win.
Next up was the Mares’ Handicap Hurdle with the favourite Saxon Queen going one better than last time out to take the win. Despite the small field this was a very competitive race with Saxon Queen and Rubys Reward battling to

the line each heading each other and Saxon Queen getting hampered approaching the last. Both were all out and Peter and Sean Bowen managed to nab the win by a short head with Saxon Queen.
There seemingly is a course specialist in Chief Black Robe as he completed the double here and a treble across courses in such great style. The biggest winning margin of the day of eighteen lengths and providing Fergal O’Brien with a double on the day In spite of a significant rise in the weights it seems the handicappers have still not caught this El Salvador offspring as he ran prominently, not jumping straight and still left the rest him. A very impressive performance by the seven-year-old.
The great day of racing
was rounded off by the favourite getting beaten by six lengths. Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies had Corporal Jackjones racing in second and happily getting a lead by Gregorian Diamond. This lasted until one furlong out in this National Hunt Flat Race when Corporal JackJones led and extended his lead with ease with no extra from the rest of the field. This comfortable win was the closing to a fantastic day of racing.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LIGHT N STRIKE built on the promise of his previous run when scoring in good style at Warwick last month, taking his record to 4 wins from 10 completed outings over fences, and the 7-y-o can continue to go the right way as a chaser. He is taken to get the better of Magic Saint who can go well in first-time blinkers, while Noahthirtytwored also merits consideration.
