ON BEHALF OF THE DIRECTORS, SHAREHOLDERS AND STAFF, I AM DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU TO NEWTON ABBOT RACECOURSE FOR OUR SEVENTH FIXTURE OF OUR 2022 SEASON. We would like to thank today’s race sponsors: Talk Tidy Marketing, Newton Abbot Racecourse On Facebook, newtonabbotracing.com, Sky Sports Racing, Attheraces, The Racing Partnership The Racing Industry faces many challenges currently, not just with small field sizes, but prize money against other countries and the cost of travel for horse boxes to the racecourse to give some examples. We are extremely grateful to all our owners for continuing their support of racing. We will continue to invest as much Executive Prize Money as we can over this year, and we will try to maintain those levels in the coming years. We hope all Owners continue to support Newton Abbot Racecourse this year and our exciting race programme. We will continue to support grass roots racing. We have increased all race values in Class 5 Hurdles from £4,300 to £6,500. Class 5 Chases from £4,600 to £7,000. Class 4 Hurdles from £5,800 to £7,500. Class 4 Chases from £6,600 to £8,000. Class 3 Hurdles from £9,100 to £11,000. Class 3 Chases from £10,800 to £12,000. All my staff have been working in difficult circumstances over the past few years and I am grateful to them for all their support. The groundstaff have been very busy since the end of racing last year. We have enlarged and resurfaced the track crossing and built new fences amongst other projects. We have moved our annual members to a larger room and created a new raceday office. For further information on any event at the racecourse for the rest of the year, please visit our website www.newtonabbotracing.com or call in at the general office today. Like many businesses in the South West, we are looking for staff. We have two permanent staff opportunities, one on the track and the other in the catering department. If you would like to join our team, please call 01626 353235. We wish all Owners and Trainers with a runner here today every success. Our next upcoming fixtures are: Tuesday 21 June (EVE) - First Race 5.10pm Friday 1 July – First Race 2.00pm Monday 11 July – First Race 1.00pm Best wishes

LAST MEETING REVIEW |WEDNESDAY 1ST JUNE 2022
1
Our meeting on Wednesday 1st June consisted of seven races.
1
The meeting started with the Ben Clarke-trained Little Jessture narrowly beating Lonimoss Bareliere by a head. The six-year-old was held up towards the rear before briefly leading when slightly hampered two out. She then led narrowly after the last and found just enough to fend off the danger from Dan Skelton’s gelding. Market favourite Kapitaliste failed to make an impression on proceedings, finishing just over six lengths behind the leader in third. It was a more comfortable victory in the second race of the day, where Clearance saw off the danger from Thahab Ifraj to win by two lengths. Michael Burke’s gelding was held up behind the leaders and was going best despite a mistake which nearly lost jockey Harry Reed. He soon managed to recover from that error and ran-on well to secure the honours in the St Austell Brewery Handicap Hurdle. Favurite Nelsons Rock justified his
2
market price with a comfortable two-and-a-quar4 ter length victory over Minella Voucher and Johnny B in a three runner handicap chase. Nelsons Rock put in a fine round of jumping and pressed the leader from the 16th before taking the lead when approaching the final two. Jockey Brendan Powell gave him a reminder when the gelding idled slightly approaching the last. Minella Voucher and Johnny B were no match for Joe Tizzard’s seven-year-old. Quid Pro Quo certainly justified his 1/5 starting price, winning by seven lengths

over Vis A Vis. The Dan-Skelton-trained six-year-old travelled strongly throughout and was never in any danger of relinquishing his lead.He hung right with one circuit to go and took the lead when two from home before staying on well to record a comfortable success. It was to be another comfortable succes in the following race, with Barden Bella making all to beat Danzini by three-anda-quarter lengths. Christian Williams’ six-year-old was clear after the sixth and faced a
strong challenge but soon went clear agin when two from the finish before staying on well to secure the honours. Market favourite Glendruid was unable to fend off the danger from Morgenstern. David Pipe’s gelding was prominent and led through the home turn before staying on well to beat Glendruid by seven-anda-half lengths.Ted’s Friend finished 28 lengths behind the leader with Our Colossus being pulled up. The meeting was then concluded with Far Sight winning for trainer Philip Hobbs, seeing off The Punt by three-and-a-quarter legnths. The five-year-old was clear over a furlong out and found plenty to take the final race of the day.

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

MARK THE MAN gets the nod on the assumption that Tango Arumba, who is due to run at Uttoxeter on Thursday evening, doesn’t go to post.
