The Racing Industry is currently facing many challenges. Not only with small field sizes, prize money compared with other countries, cost of travel for horseboxes to the racecourse to give a few examples. We are continually grateful to all our Owners for continuing their support of our racing fixtures. We will continue to invest as much Executive Prize Money as we can over this year, and we will try to maintain those levels in the coming years. We hope all Owners continue to support Newton Abbot Racecourse this year and our exciting race programme. We will continue to support grass roots racing. We have increased all race values in Class 5 Hurdles from £4,300 to £6,500. Class 5 Chases from £4,600 to £7,000. Class 4 Hurdles from £5,800 to £7,500. Class 4 Chases from £6,600 to £8,000. LAST MEETING REVIEW |WEDNESDAY 25TH MAY 2022
Our meeting on Wednesday 25th May consisted of seven races.
1 1
Our first raceof the day saw short-priced favourite Gentle Connections justify her price, comfortably winning by seven lengths to Hey Frankie. The five-year-old made all and was clear after the second before having her lead reduced when approaching the third. She soon went clear again when two from the finish and was never in any danger of relinqushing her lead. Hey Frankie was a comfortable second with Haloa Mail and Regal ‘n Bold being left a long way behind. It was to be another comfortable victory for the favourite in the second race of the meeting with Sizing Cusimano winning by an impressive 27 lengths. The Joe Tizzard-trained nine-year-old disputed the lead before leading at the the eighth. He soon went clear when four out and never had any challenge from the remainder of the field. Flying Verse was the closest to the winner, with St Erney and From The Heart completing the field.
2
Well supported Get The Appeal struggled to make an impact and was eventually pulled up by jockey Lorcan Williams for trainer Paul Nicholls.
4
It was a similar story in the third race, with favourite Glengeever securing a nine-and-a-half length victory over Ben Lilly. The Ben Lund-trained gelding made all and was pushed along before two out. The six-year-old soon went clear to secure an impressive success. David Pipe’s Ben Lilly wasn’t close to mounting a serious challenge with Ballygoe and Mr Craftsman left behind. The remaining

four runners were all pulled up. It was a fine performance from Imperial Joe as he cruised to a 17 length victory. The six-year-old went clear after three out and despite a bad mistake at the last, there was never any danger of him relinqushing his lead to Miss M who finished second. Mourzouk made it three wins on the spin as he completed a four-and-a-quarter length success over Birds Of Prey.
7
Mourzouk made all and despite a mistake when two out, kept on well to complete a comfortable success. The penultimate race of the day saw an eight-runner Hunter Chase, where Story Of Friends came out on top for trainer Syd Hoise. Jockey George Hiscock held the gelding up towards the rear, beofre being nudged along when two out. He soon led went approaching the last and found just enough to fend off the danger from Wotzizname, winning by a neck. The meeting was then completed with another comfortable victory. This time for Kapitaliste, who defeated Miss Marette by 19 lengths. The Alexandra Dunn-trained six-year-old led before two out and was soon clear. He kept on strongly and was never in any danger of being challenged from his rivals on the day.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

It may have taken a while for KAPITALISTE to open his account but he wasted no time in recording a second success and can go on to complete the hat-trick. He’s looked a different proposition in a change of headgear and can defy a penalty in his current mood. Gavin and Lonimoss Bareliere could be the ones to give the selection most to think about.
