As the 2026 Flat season gets underway on the Rowley Mile, it is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Betway Craven Meeting, our traditionalcurtain-raiserand one of the most informative and eagerly anticipated fixtures of the spring.
This meeting has long been recognised as a key marker in the season, offering the first real clues to the Classic picture ahead. Over the next three days, we are treated to a superb programme of racing, with Days Two and Three featuring outstanding Group races that regularly showcase horses destined for the very highest level. Many champions of the turf have begun their campaigns here, and this week’s performances will undoubtedly highlight names to follow throughout the year
The atmosphere at the Betway Craven Meeting is always special - a sense of renewal, anticipation and possibility as owners, trainers and jockeys return to the Rowley Mile with fresh hopes for the season ahead Whether you are here to study the Classic contenders, support your connections, or simply enjoy the unique buzz of Newmarket in the spring, we are delighted to have you with us.
We would like to thank Betway, The Federation of Bloodstock Agents, Gabriela Rose London, AR Legal Collectors, The EBF and The family and friends of the late Alex Scott for the sponsorship of today’s card We’d also like to thank Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai, for their ongoing sponsorship of our Owners’ and Trainers’ facility

Those with experience don’t set the bar that high so perhaps CERRO BLANCO can strike on debut and provide Charlie Appleby with a second successive win in this maiden. Galba may prove best of those who have seen the track, while the other newcomers, Big Snoopy and Makerstoun, have pedigrees/price tags which suggest they could be well above average.

A tough early-season handicap to get a handle on but the assessor has taken a big chance with TIGER POWER’s opening mark given the impression he created when winning at Southwell in February He’s therefore the call, though plenty of these have the potential to do better at 3 yrs, notably Darn Hot Gallop and Blue Courvoisier

At Newmarket Racecourses we believe racing should be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. And one thing is certainly true, the more relaxed and comfortable we feel, the more likely we are to have a great time. So that’s why we’ve created one very simple piece of guidance, to come “dressed to feel your best”.
We’re all unique, and no more so than in our sense of style and comfort. For some, wearing a nice sweatshirt, pair of jeans and clean trainers is what makes them feel confident and at-ease. For others, they might prefer to turn heads with a sharp suit or glamorous dress and high heels, particularly for one of our big race meetings But whatever your tastes, the most important thing when choosing your outfit is, of course, comfort and confidence. So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather. Here’s some other useful tips and advice for making sure your time with us is as memorable as possible.
Fancy dress can often add colour and fun to our racedays, but please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry.
We love other sports as much as anyone, but showing allegiance to a favourite club can sometimes appear antagonistic So, to keep things simple, please refrain from wearing team kits when attending one of our racedays.
Only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets in the course of their business. Any individuals found contravening these conditions will be evicted. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc, for any purpose at the racecourse.

In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse We would advise that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
