Newmarket Racecard - Thursday 25th June

Page 1

THURSDAY 25 JUNE 2026

WELCOME TO

As we welcome you to the July Course, we are delighted to enjoy summer racing in the beautiful surroundings of this unique and much-loved venue.

With high temperatures forecast today, the race programme has been brought forward following discussions across the sport, with the welfare of our horses, jockeys, stable staff, officials and racegoers remaining our highest priority. We thank everyone for their support and cooperation in adapting to these arrangements.

Midweek fixtures at the July Course have a relaxed and sociable charm, combined with competitive racing that continues to shape the Flat season. Today’s card offers an engaging programme of contests, building towards our feature race of the afternoon, the Empress Stakes

Run over six furlongs, the Empress Stakes is an exciting and informative contest for two-year-old fillies. At this early stage of their careers, these young horses are just beginning to reveal their potential, and this race has a reputation for highlighting promising talent. It promises to be a thrilling finale to the day’s racing and a fascinating glimpse of future stars.

We are delighted that today’s racing is generously sponsored by Hallgarten Wines and the EBF whose valued support plays an important role in making meetings like this possible We would also like to thank Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai, for their continued sponsorship of our Owners’ and Trainers’ facility

On behalf of everyone at Newmarket Racecourses, I wish all owners, trainers and jockeys the very best of luck this afternoon, and thank you for being with us for what promises to be an enjoyable and competitive day of racing

Best wishes,

RCA GROUNDSTAFF AWARDSNEWMARKET

HONOURED TODAY

Today Newmarket Racecourses proudly celebrates its Grounds Team, who were presented with the Flat Course Award at the 2025 Racecourse Association (RCA) Groundstaff Awards.

This prestigious honour recognises an outstanding year of commitment, innovation and excellence in turf management, with particular focus on equine welfare, sustainability and data-led decision making. It follows a notably challenging season, as the team successfully maintained safe and consistent going throughout an unprecedented and prolonged dry summer across both the Rowley Mile and July Course.

A highlight of their work has been the first major renovation of the July Course in 25 years. Undertaken within a limited growing window, the project involved extensive scarification, the removal of significant organic material and a full restoration of the racing surface to peak condition. Investment in wireless soil monitoring technology has further enhanced preparation, placing Newmarket at the forefront of innovation in racecourse management.

Enhancements to the July Course Winners Enclosure have also improved safety and accessibility for horses and participants alike.

Andrew Morris, Head of Racing and Clerk of the Course, said: “It’s fantastic that Newmarket has been awarded Best Flat Course Alan Hatherley and the Estates Team have done a tremendous job balancing the demands of both courses during an incredibly dry summer, while embracing new technology and delivering significant improvements.”

This award is a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of the entire team, whose efforts ensure Newmarket continues to set the standard for high-quality racing surfaces at the Home of Horseracing.

20-26JUNE

This year sees the tenth running of Racing Staff Week. Once again, the week will bring the racing industry and its followers together to showcase the passion, skill and dedication of all the staff, across the breadth of the industry, whose hard work makes our great sport possible.

This year’s Racing Staff Week will recognise the contribution of the industry’s entire workforce, from stud and stable staff to breeders, racecourse staff and administrators and everything in between.

FISCAL POLICY backed up his Pontefract win with a good C&D third last week and he makes most appeal again in tricky race There were more encouraging signs from Change Sings last time out and he could prove very dangerous dropped into 0-80 company, whilst Angel Gabriel has some good 2-y-o form to his name and he starts out in handicaps from a workable mark after 6-month break.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY TO RACECOURSE

Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or eject from, the racecourse any person without assigning a reason In particular, any instance of unruly behaviour, such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting, shall entitle the Racecourse Executive to expel the offending racegoer without prior notice Racegoers must abide by any regulations including the observance of designated non-drinking areas

At Newmarket Racecourses we believe racing should be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. And one thing is certainly true, the more relaxed and comfortable we feel, the more likely we are to have a great time. So that’s why we’ve created one very simple piece of guidance, to come “dressed to feel your best”.

We’re all unique, and no more so than in our sense of style and comfort. For some, wearing a nice sweatshirt, pair of jeans and clean trainers is what makes them feel confident and at-ease. For others, they might prefer to turn heads with a sharp suit or glamorous dress and high heels, particularly for one of our big race meetings

But whatever your tastes, the most important thing when choosing your outfit is, of course, comfort and confidence. So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather. Here’s some other useful tips and advice for making sure your time with us is as memorable as possible.

Fancy dress can often add colour and fun to our racedays, but please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry.

We love other sports as much as anyone, but showing allegiance to a favourite club can sometimes appear antagonistic So, to keep things simple, please refrain from wearing team kits when attending one of our racedays.

Only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets in the course of their business. Any individuals found contravening these conditions will be evicted. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc, for any purpose at the racecourse.

EMERGENCY NOTICE

In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse We would advise that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. In the event of an evacuation please do as requested by Newmarket Racecourses Management and security staff They will direct you to a safe place. Do not attempt to regain access to buildings

Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
