2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse. 3. Timeform view and TFR rating 4. HORSE’S TRAINER & THEIR LOCATION
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race. 5. JOCKEYS Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day. OTHER USEFUL DETAILS 6. BETTING EXPLAINED Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.
Visit www.racingexplained.co.uk for more information

Providing your complete betting service today Betting with Tote is available across the racecourse with a wide range of pool bets offered. No need to fill out a betting slip, simply tell one of our friendly team members your bet type, horses and how much you would like to spend. Any bets placed with Tote on course today help support racing as our profits are returned to the racecourse where the bet is placed.
Placing a Win bet? We pay whichever is more, the Tote pool price or the official Starting Price. If the SP pays more than Tote, we match it - guaranteed.
Need help picking? Ask for a Lucky Pick and our smart formula will do the hard work for you. Available on any bet, any race, just tell us how much you want to spend. Try a Lucky Pick wallet which includes a bundle of bets giving you multiple chances to win. Including the Placepot where we had a payout of £20,121 from a Lucky Pick wallet at Musselburgh earlier this year.

TO
Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or eject from, the racecourse any person without assigning a reason. In particular, any instance of unruly behaviour, such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting, shall entitle the Racecourse Executive to expel the offending racegoer without prior notice. Racegoers must abide by any regulations including the observance of designated non-drinking areas. At Newmarket Racecourses we believe racing should be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. And one thing is certainly true, the more relaxed and comfortable we feel, the more likely we are to have a great time. So that’s why we’ve created one very simple piece of guidance, to come “dressed to feel your best”. We’re all unique, and no more so than in our sense of style and comfort. For some, wearing a nice sweatshirt, pair of jeans and clean trainers is what makes them feel confident and at-ease. For others, they might prefer to turn heads with a sharp suit or glamorous dress and high heels, particularly for one of our big race meetings. But whatever your tastes, the most important thing when choosing your outfit is, of course, comfort and confidence. So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather. Here’s some other useful tips and advice for making sure your time with us is as memorable as possible. Fancy dress can often add colour and fun to our racedays, but please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry. We love other sports as much as anyone, but showing allegiance to a favourite club can sometimes appear antagonistic. So, to keep things simple, please refrain from wearing team kits when attending one of our racedays.
Only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets in the course of their business. Any individuals found contravening these conditions will be evicted. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc, for any purpose at the racecourse.
EMERGENCY NOTICE In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse. We would advise that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. In the event of an evacuation please do as requested by Newmarket Racecourses Management and security staff. They will direct you to a safe place. Do not attempt to regain access to buildings.
FEEDBACK We are always pleased to hear from our customers and are grateful for any feedback you can provide about your visit today. There are short contact forms available online at thejockeyclub.co.uk/ newmarket and we value your comments.
THE COURSE IS FOR HORSES Please keep off the track. The track is for horses, their jockeys and stable staff, please keep them and yourselves safe by remaining inside the barriers. HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICE The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Newmarket Racecourses. We would request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing area and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that we do have a first aid room. Should anyone require any assistance please speak to the nearest steward.

HBLB PRIZE MONEY The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prizemoney for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.
RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses deliver these standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
