Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2024 season. Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.

As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.

I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2024 season, the very best of luck.

Have a wonderful day at the races today.

DECLARED RUNNERS 8 2023: BELLUM JUSTUM (IRE) 2 9 2 Oisin Murphy 11-2 (Andrew Balding) 17 ran

Running for the first time since Gelding No 5.

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Naval Command (GB), 10-3 Seacruiser (IRE), 6-1 Present Times (GB), 13-2 Devil’s Advocate (GB), 15-2 Kingmaker (IRE), 12-1 Sol Argent (IRE), 22-1 Hallelujah U (GB), 28-1 Take The A Train (GB)

A field mostly made up of newcomers and the betting will likely prove a good guide. NAVAL COMMAND ticks plenty of boxes on paper and is seemingly the choice of Buick, so earns the vote before market clues Present Times and Devil’s Advocate are two other blue bloods to keep a close eye on, while Seacruiser showed promise on his Goodwood debut and can put that experience to good use.

2023: KINTA (IRE) 3 9 8 William Buick 13-2 (George Boughey) 10 ran Visor worn first time by No 3. Hood worn by No 5. Hood, Tongue Strap worn by No 2. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 6. Stewards Note: SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT: Following its run on 7/7/2024 it was reported that the horse hung right-handed throughout. DANCEAND ROMANCE: Following its run on 8/9/2024 it was reported that the horse weakened quickly late-on.

Probable S.P’s: 11-4 Funny Story (GB), 4-1 Dance And Romance (GB), 9-2 Kinta (IRE), 13-2 Executive Decision (IRE), 7-1 Pinafore (IRE), 11-1 Sophia’s Starlight (FR), 14-1 Geologist (GB)

EXECUTIVE DECISION has shaped well when making the frame on her last 2 starts, having to make her ground away from the principals at Ascot on her latest outing, so she could be ready to strike from 3lb below her last winning mark. Funny Story isn’t taken lightly as she makes her first handicap start of the season, with Dance And Romance also considered.

THE JULY FESTIVAL 2025

TATTERSALLS STAKES

The highlight of day one of the Cambridgeshire Meeting is the Group Three Tattersalls Stakes. The registered title of the seven-furlong contest for two-year-old colts and geldings is the Somerville Tattersall Stakes in remembrance of Somerville Tattersall (1863–1942), a senior partner of Tattersalls bloodstock auctioneers.

First staged in 1962, the contest can sometimes serve as a trial for the Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes over the same course and distance on Dubai Future Champions Day in October. Wind And Wuthering (1981), Grand Lodge (1993) and Milk It Mick (2003) all landed the Tattersalls Stakes prior to going on to Dewhurst success

Godolphin’s Modern Games is the best winner of recent years Following his success in 2021, he went on to glory later that year in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar, USA He scored three times at the highest level in 2022 with wins in the French 2,000 Guineas, Woodbine Mile and Breeders’ Cup Mile, while last year he added a further Group One victory to his CV when taking the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

The late Sir Henry Cecil trained a record five winners of the Tattersalls Stakes Sir Michael Stoute leads the way among current handlers with four victories - Spark Of Life (1980), Truely Nureyev (1985), Annus Mirabilis (1994) and Nostrum (2022)

Similarly, the all-time leading jockey in the contest is the late Pat Eddery with six successes Ryan Moore is the leading current rider with three wins courtesy of Ashram (2008), Wichita (2019) and Nostrum (2022)

There are few spectacles in sport quite like the sight of 35 runners thundering down the Rowley Mile and this nine-furlong contest is a favourite of jockeys, trainers and racegoers alike Recent winners to go on and perform at Group level include Wissahickon in 2018 and Lord North in 2019

This is truly a world-class day of racing action staged on the historic Rowley Mile and a fitting finale to three fantastic days of horseracing

Race preview from Weatherbys

The Graham Budd Horseracing Memorabilia Handicap, staged over 1m4f, looks set to be a real competitive affair and the weights are headed by Harry Charlton’s prolificfour-year-oldBaltic.Theson of Frankel shed his maiden tag on handicap debut on his last start of the year in 2023 and has picked up where he left off this term with four consecutive victories. He returns to the turf here after two victories at Newcastle, the latest of which a determined neck victory over the reopposing Tryfan for which he has beennudgedup4lbs.Balticactually arrives here on 2lb better terms and is likely to carry on improving. Macari is the only other four-yearold set to line up, however Sheena West’s gelding is winless in five startsontheflat.

Wonder Kid recorded impressive victories on his first two starts in handicapcompanyatNewburyand the July course back in June and wasjustnarrowlydeniedupinclass in a strong handicap at the July Festival next time. Hugo Palmer’s three-year-old was disappointing at Ascot when last seen but was too keen and wasn’t suited by the way the race developed, so he can bouncebackonthebackofabreak.

John and Thady Gosden’s Dubawi colt, Fighter Command, hails from the family of runaway Derby winner Serpentineand, whilstdisappointing in the London Gold Cup, he posted anencouragingreturntoformwhen runner-upontheJulycourseaftera breaklasttime.

He

is up 1lb for that effort and the form has been advertised with the third, fourth and fifth all winning since.

Andrew Balding’s Candyman Stan got off the mark at the third time of asking in a Lingfield maiden last timeandwhilsthewasashortprice in a weak race, it was hard not to be impressed with how he surged clear in fine style. The Study Of Man gelding makes his handicap debut from a mark of 80 here, with Oisin Murphy in the saddle. Ed Dunlop’s Don Simon is the other handicap debutantamongstthefieldandthe SeaTheStarscoltisoutoftheyard’s superstar six-time Group/Grade 1 winner Snow Fairy. Whilst he has shownlittleintwostartsatSouthwell this term, more is expected now stepping into handicap company fromanopeningmarkof77.

Probable S.P’s: 11-2 Amsterdam (GB), 7-1 Classic Encounter (IRE), Terries Royale (GB), 9-1 Where’s Freddy (IRE), 11-1 Pressure’s On (FR), Lake Teo (IRE), 12-1 Drink Dry (IRE), 14-1 Repertoire (GB), Desperate Dan (IRE), 16-1 Mr Baloo (IRE), 22-1 Hieronymus (GB), Island Bandit (IRE), 28-1 Stockpyle (GB), 40-1 Bajan Bandit (GB)

CLASSIC ENCOUNTER shaped very well having had 9 months off when fifth in a Newcastle novice 16 days ago having been caught further back than ideal. Now handicapping from what could well prove a lenient mark, he earns the vote, ahead of Mick Appleby’s Terries Royale who patently shaped best when runner-up at Doncaster 11 days ago Amsterdam and Pressure’s On are another pair to consider in an interesting finale.
