SUN CHARIOT DAY
SATURDAY 07 OCTOBER
OFFICIAL RACECARD £3.50

1.30pm- Madame Ambassador looked to have plenty in hand when winning last time out over course and distance. The Charlie Johnston trained filly can make the running if needed and has got a nice draw to break from. She does go up in the weights however and will have to defy carrying top weight today but has to be considered a serious contender Morning Poem should be suited by stepping back into handicap company. She gets cheek pieces applied for the first time and looks an interesting runner for John & Thady Gosden. There could be plenty more to come from Whispering Words with the lightly raced 3 year old stepping up in trip for Charlie Appleby. She will probably need to improve more from her Kempton but the step up in trip may bring about this improvement and a mark of 88 looks fair
2.05pm- Zoulu Chief comes into this race off the back of an impressive win at York over 6 furlongs in August. The form of that race now looks rock solid as plenty of runners who finished behind him that day have since won next time out. Woodhay Wonder may be able to serve up a challenge and is coming here after winning last time out at Newmarket over 6 furlongs. Lieutenant Rascal has shown improvement in form since being gelded and steps up to 6 furlongs today. He may get involved in the places.
2.40pm- Cloudbreaker ran a very credible 4th in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. She carries top weight but has been running very constantly and is likely to play a part in the business end of the race. Long Ago steps up in trip for Sir Michael Stoute. She didn’t give a true account of herself last time out in York but is a horse who looks to have plenty of scope for improvement. Vera Verto looks an interesting selection. She was a runaway winner at the Listowel Festival last month. That race was ran on soft to heavy ground but the mare seems to be ground versatile
3.15pm- Inspiral will be hard to beat if she can produce close to her best in the feature race of the day. She has not been the most consistent but bounced back to form with an impressive display at Deauville last time out in the Prix Jacques le Marois. Meditate has not been in the winners enclosure since her victory at the Breeders’ Cup last year and was no match for Tahiyra this season but remains a threat if she can improve or if Inspiral underperforms. The French raider Mqse de Sevigne has tactical speed and looks a real threat to take the spoils. She left it late to win the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet which followed her win in the Prix Rothschild. Andre Fabre has a very nice filly and she could be the one to take on Inspiral if the John & Thady Gosden filly does not run to her best.
3.50pm- Classic Encounter ran green on his debut run but would have learnt a lot from that experience and is open to plenty of improvement now gelded. King’s Fountain can a decent race on soft ground at Sandown. He now steps up to a mile and better ground may suit the colt better today. Sisyphean was beaten narrowly last time out over a mile He has caught the eye on two runs including a hot maiden at York and today could be the day where the Kevin Ryan trained 2 year old breaks his maiden tag.
4.25pm- Military Leader represents strong connections. The Dubawi colt out of a Galileo mare was an expensive purchase for Godolphin and is likely the one the field will all have to beat. Placo ran well at Leicester on his debut run for John and Thady Gosden and looks the best of the horses who come into this race having has a run behind them.
5.00pm- Premiere Beauty get first time headgear and could be a danger now running off 75. Zouzanna goes up 2lbs for her win at Ascot last time out and there could be more to come from the filly if able to reproduce her last effort. Coco Jambo looks very consistent and she was an impressive winner over 7 furlongs at Sandown last time out. She will have a tough job to defy a mark of 86 however and slight preference is for Zouzanna
A warm welcome to the Rowley Mile for Sun Chariot Day featuring the Group One Virgin Bet Sun Chariot Stakes which forms part of the British Champions Series.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our title sponsors Virgin Bet, as well as British EBF and Tattersalls, for their generous support across today’s card
Celebrating 20 years since its inception, the Virgin Bet Sun Chariot Stakes stands as a magnet for the most exceptional fillies and mares of the flat racing world
Named after King George VI’s Fillies’ Triple Crown winner of 1942, the Group One regularly features some of the best mares in training, with winners of this race including Sky Lantern (2013), Laurens (2018) and Saffron Beach (2021).
As we move through the Autumn season, we look forward to the Dubai Future Champions Festival on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th October, the jewel of our autumn season, where this season’s top two-year-olds line up against each other in the aim to crown the Champion Juvenile. This fixture always holds key clues towards the QIPCO Guineas Festival, held back at the Rowley Mile in May. More information and tickets can be found at www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket
Looking ahead to 2024, tickets for the QIPCO Guineas Festival, held on Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May, remain at the best possible price. Whether you’re a seasoned racegoer, or looking for a first-class day out, there is something for everyone to enjoy across the weekend, including the first two classics of the season, the QIPCO 2000 Guineas and the QIPCO 1000 Guineas Few races in the horseracing world are as prestigious as the two Group Ones which date back to the 19th century. Tickets are available from just £12, and more information can be found at www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket
Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility. I do hope you have a very enjoyable afternoon with us, and I wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck

The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2023
As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2023 season.
Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.
As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.
I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2023 season, the very best of luck.
Have a wonderful day at the races today.

ZOULU CHIEF holds the clear edge on the form of his striking York nurserywin so looks very much the way to go in this valuable event. Michael Dods’s improving Midnite Runner could emerge as the chief threat if, as expected, going on again from his Thirsk novice success. Woodhay Wonder is another with the form to have a say on the back of his win on the July course here, with Invincible Aura completing the shortlist.
The Great British Bonus (GBB) offers multiple bonuses of up to £20,000 per eligible race for British-bred fillies and mares.

PLAY SMARTER
QUEEN EMMA is a rapidly-improving sort who went close to completing the hat-trick at Doncasterlast month and, with the timefigure supporting the performance, she makes plenty of appeal from only 3lb higher, especially with Dettori up Long Ago has some strong form and is well worth another chance now going handicapping having seemingly raced on the unfavoured far side in a York listed event last time, with Decoration another to take seriously

PLAY SMARTER
SISYPHEAN ran to a similar level as on debut when edged out late on by another promising sort at Ayr’s Western Meeting 16 days ago, and with the likelihood of more to come, Kevin Ryan’s charge gets the nod to go one place better Classic Encounter looked badly in need of the experience on his debut at Kempton yet, gelded subsequently, he promises to leave that effort in his wake and is feared. King’s Fountain and Hand of God complete the shortlist.

Charlie Appleby hasn’t been as prolific with his juveniles this term but 1,500,000 gns yearling MILITARY LEADER ticks plenty ofthe right boxes so can come out on top with the booking of Ryan Moore catching the eye.
