AL BASTI EQUIWORLD DUBAI

FRIDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2023

Official Racecard - £3.50

WelcometotheRowleyMileforthesecondofthethree-dayCambridgeshire fixture, one of the major highlights of the autumn racing season.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their generous sponsorship of today’s card We are delighted to be supporting their new environmental initiative today, as they kindly gift all winning owners and trainers with a lasting memento; a three-metre-tall tree of their choice, supplied by locally based specialist nursery, Barchams. Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai have also kindly gifted Newmarket Racecourse a new tree, which has been planted in the pre-parade ring, as an ongoing gesture of our strong relationship

There are two feature Group Two contests today, the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Rockfel Stakes for two-year-old fillies and the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Joel Stakes for three-year-old and older colts. Both races hold outstanding victory rolls, including Classic winners, and a host of Group One winners. The Rockfel Stakes is also a Breeders Cup “Win and You’re In” race, which means we could look forward to seeing the winner in America later this year.

Away from the racing, we encourage racegoers explore our Oktoberfest area along the Boulevard, where you can find a brass quartet playing some Bavarian music There is also an array of themed delicacies and refreshing beverages. Looking ahead, we have a final day of the Cambridgeshire meeting tomorrow, with more Group racing to come. There will also be more Oktoberfest fun, with tickets still available

As we move into October, we look forward to the Dubai Future Champions Festival on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th October, the jewel of our autumn season, where this season’s top two-year-olds line up against each other in the aim to crown the Champion Juvenile This fixture always holds key clues towards the QIPCO Guineas Festival, held back at the Rowley Mile in May. More information and tickets can be found at our website, www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket

Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility.

I do hope you have a very enjoyable afternoon with us, and I wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck

TODAY’S

As a leading distributer of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am delighted to once again sponsor all eight races on today’s card at the prestigious Cambridgeshire meeting.

This year, I have decided to offer a locally sourced tree as the winning prize to all eight owners and trainers. Furthermore I am delighted to present a gift to Newmarket Racecourse of a specimen tree which has been planted in the pre parade ring.

And finally the cover of your race card is made from Seedpaper which you should take home and plant in the spring which will bring you an array of Wildflowers and Alyssum.

I send my warmest good wishes to the connections of all runners on today’s card and I would like to thank Will Wyatt, Sophie Able and their team for working so hard to make today a special day for Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai.

Good luck to all

Trees, Seedpaper and more trees

As you walked into the racecourse today you will have noticed that there are various displays of some beautiful trees.

The reason is that today’s race day sponsors Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai have decided to present the winning owners and trainers in all eight races with a gift of a tree. These trees have been sourced locally at BarchamsTrees outside Newmarket. Barchams are holders of two RoyalWarrants and recently hosted His Majesty, King Charles at their nursery.

MrMalihAlBasti, founderandownerofAlBastiEquiworld,Dubai willpresentaspecimen treeasagifttoNewmarketRacecourse.Thistreehasbeenplantedinthepreparadering. Be sure to have a look at it today and again next spring when it will be in full bloom.

Youwillhavealsonoticedthatthecoveroftheracecardisslightlydifferent.Thatisbecause the cover is made from Seedpaper. It contains wild flower seeds embedded in the card.

What to do with your Seedpaper.

1. When racing is over this evening, please take your Seedpaper home

2. Tear it up into smaller pieces and soak it in water for 24/48 hours.

3. Then transfer it to a pot with compost

4. Water regularly

5. Keep in a warm place with natural light

6. Don’t let it dry out but don’t overwater it

Enjoy your blooms !

PLAY SMARTER

A case can be made for a few of these but QUEEN FOR YOU holds the edge on form and is proving a consistent sort too so edges the vote on the back of her excellent Sandown Group 3 second. Sandringham heroine Coppice can be excused her ninth in that contest when her saddle slipped and she rates the chief threat, although both Potapova and Tarawa can have a say too in an open Group 3.

RACE RESULTS

A good Group 3. SWEET MEMORIES and Sea Theme could both be very good after scoring in Listed company on only their third starts and look the pair to focus on, with a narrow vote going the way of the former under Frankie Dettori. The selection’s stablemate Running Lion should also have a part to play back at the scene of her Pretty Polly win in the spring. RACE TIMEDISTANCE

LASTYEAR’S WINNER COMMISSIONING

TRAINER: JOHN & THADY GOSDEN

JOCKEY: ROBERT HAVLIN

OWNER: ISA SALMAN & ABDULLA AL KHALIFA

Commissioning created a big impression on debut when winninng her maiden on the July Course and was rightly stepped up in company with immediate effect. She handled the rise in class with aplomb

Despite looking a tad green under pressure in the closing stages, she found plenty and had matters well in hand after taking up the running under Havlin.

Bred to stay quite a bit further than this, she proved her class over this distance to score a shade cosily by two and three quarters of a length. Electric Eyes booked herself for second, followed by Rage Of Bamby in third.

SHUWARI

Oisin Murphy rides the unbeaten Shuwari who proved her ability when taking Listed success last time out.

Six runners headed to post for the 2022 renewal of the Joel Stakes which saw the veteran of the field Tempus head the betting for Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle. However, he effectively threw his race away with a slow start which left the floor wideopen for Jim Crowley on Mutasaabeq.

Proving well suited by a switch to frontrunning tactics in first time blinkers, the four-year-old finally claimed the pattern breakthrough he looked capable of landing on several occasions.

Crowley judged the fractions out front beautifully and stole the show, with El Drama outperforming his 8/1 odds to finish second, just under a length behind.

Everything looks in place for last year’s winner MUTASAABEQ to stage a return to form.
