CESAREWITCH TRIAL DAY
SATURDAY 23 SEPTEMBER
OFFICIAL RACECARD £3.50
Welcome to the Cesarewitch Trial Day kicking off the four-weeklong Gold Season at Rowley Mile Racecourse when Newmarket truly becomes the hub for global flat racing.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to Turners of Soham who are kindly sponsoring this seven race card We hope they have a thoroughly enjoyable day with us here.
The prestigious Cesarewitch Trial is the marquis race of the day, a true test of endurance and resilience as emerging stayers’ stars battle it out over a gruelling distance of 2 miles and 2 furlongs on the legendary Rowley Mile course This race is the proving ground for budding stayers, where they showcase their mettle and stake their claim in the racing world. With an exceptional prize purse and a legacy of fierce competition, the Cesarewitch Trial promises to be a spectacle of epic proportions.
Beyond the racing action, we invite racegoers to savour the array of culinary and beverage delights spread throughout the course For further details, please refer to the map section in this racecard.
Throughout the Autumn, Newmarket becomes the epicentre of flat racing in the UK beckoning elite trainers, jockeys, and thoroughbreds from across the world. BETTING EXPLAINED
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Mark Rimell’s filly RED MAIDS has really clicked into gear of late so is fancied to defy an 8lb weight hike and complete a quick hat-trick. Capital Guarantee hasn’t looked back since joining David O’Meara though and is greatly feared in his bid for a four-timer, while Magical Merlin is weighted to have a big say too and shouldn’t be underestimated either in an intriguing handicap

Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Rock of England (IRE), 17-2 Bussento (GB), 9-1 Abate (GB), Shades of Summer (IRE), 10-1 Celtic Champion (GB), 11-1 Dashing Dick (IRE), 12-1 Heroism (IRE), 14-1 Temple Bruer (GB), Equiano Springs (GB), Ray Vonn (IRE), 16-1 Spring Bloom (GB), 20-1 Royal Parade (IRE) PLAY
ROCK OF ENGLAND has done well since dropping to this trip and scored with more in hand than the margin suggested at Carlisle last time, so he’s taken to follow up from a 5lb higher mark. Celtic Champion remains low mileage and has valid excuses for finishing down the field at Wolverhampton last time, so also makes the shortlist, with Shades of Summer and Dashing Dick others to consider

FRANKIE DETTORI
TO BE CELEBRATED AT NEWMARKET RACECOURSE WITH STREET ART MURALS
The Jockey Club and Newmarket Racecourse are delighted to announce the next in a series of street art murals to mark the retirement of legendary jockey Frankie Dettori, which has been completed in advance of the first fixture of the Autumn Season, Cesarewitch Trial Day this Saturday.
The 52-year-old announced at the end of last year that 2023 would be his last season in the saddle, bringing to a close a remarkable career which has spanned almost 40 years. Dettori has enjoyed some of his most memorable moments at Newmarket over the years, including this year’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas on Chaldean. As his local racecourse since early in his career, he has 19 Group 1 wins at Newmarket alone, and nearly 500 winners
The first mural, created by leading street artists MurWalls, was unveiled at Epsom Downs as a surprise to Dettori in April, with a second created at Sandown Park’s Summer Festival in early July.
The third and final instalment will feature two murals at the Rowley Mile as Dettori’s final season in the UK comes to a close. The first of these, inspired by Dettori’s 2011 QIPCO 1000 Guineas win on Blue Bunting, overlooks the finishing line The second will be created live across the two days of Dubai Future Champions Festival, Friday 13th and Saturday 14th October.
Sophie Able, Newmarket Racecourses and International Director, said: “Frankie’s contribution to Newmarket and British racing more widely cannot be underestimated over what has been a long and stellar riding career.
“We are delighted to be able to mark this momentous occasion for Flat racing and add a permanent tribute to Frankie and all that he has achieved at his home racecourse.”
Tickets for racedays across Newmarket’s Autumn season are available via https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket/.

ETON BLUE was suited by the way the race developed at Brighton last time, but there’s no escaping he’s in the form of his life at present, so gets the nod to bring up the hat-trick. Alazwar hasn’t been firing of late but is down to a good mark, so it would be folly to rule him out, while veteran Billy Roberts shaped best on his most recent outing at Ripon and is another to consider
