SUMMER SATURDAY
SATURDAY
Official Racecard - £3.50
19TH AUGUST 2023
A warm welcome to Newmarket July Course for another in our Summer Saturday Series which run through June, July and August.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jenningsbet for their generous support of this afternoon’s card
Alongside some competitive handicap action, one of the highlights of today’s card is the Jenningsbet Grey Horse Handicap Stakes, a unique feature of the Newmarket racing calendar. The race is limited to horses who are registered as grey, and it is certainly something which racegoers have to see with their own eyes – one thing’s for sure, you’ll back a grey winner!
Away from the racing, we encourage racegoers to enjoy the expanse of food and drink opportunities available across the course There is also a bouncy castle and a face painter for our younger racegoers. Turn to the map page in this racecard for more information
Looking ahead, next weekend features our final racedays at the July Course, where we culminate with the famous Newmarket Town Plate. This historic race has been run here at the Home of Horseracing since 1666. The race is run over a stamina-sapping three-and-three-quarter miles, and it is certainly not for the faint hearted! Tickets are still available for all remaining 2023 fixtures at both the July Course and the Rowley Mile, via www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket
Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility.
I do hope you have a very enjoyable afternoon with us, and I wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck.
Warm wishes
Sophie Able

BETTING EXPLAINED
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2023 season.
Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.
As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.
I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2023 season, the very best of luck.
Have a wonderful day at the races today.

The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2023
On behalf of my Company Jenningsbet I would like to extend a warm welcome to everybody at Newmarket today.
We are the UK`s largest Independent Bookmaker with shops nationwide including every London Borough.
Over this weekend over 500 of our customers are making the journey to the July Course on coach trips organised by our wonderful managers & I hope every one of them has a great day & backs a few winners!
As well as one of our flagship shops being on Newmarket High Street , we can also be found locally in Halstead, Sudbury, Bishops Stortford & Peterborough.
Horseracing is the lifeblood of our business and that is why I think it is important to support the British Racing Industry and as well as sponsoring this Summers weekend finale we have also collaborated with the National Association of Racing Staff (NARS) to fund educational courses for their members.
Good luck to everyone and I hope to see you in a Jenningsbet shop soon!

PLAY SMARTER
CELTIC CHAMPION has been absent since Februarybut he impressedwhen doubling his careertally at Lingfield on that occasion and, appealing as being on a handy mark returned to turf, Andrew Balding’s 3-y-o remains one to be positive about. Magical Max belatedly cashed in on his much-reduced mark over 7f here in June and he can also figure with a 56-day break no problem. Low-mileage Divine Libra, Silver Samurai and last year’s winner Strike complete the shortlist.

RANGER THUNDERBOLT: Following its run on 27/7/2023 it was reported that the horse hung left-handed.
OUTGUN: Following its run on 21/7/2023 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run.
Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Outgun (GB), 9-2 Lady of Arabia (GB), Barrolo (GB), 13-2 Bailar Contigo (IRE), 7-1 Ranger Thunderbolt (IRE), 9-1 Blue Universe (IRE), 10-1 Leitrim Rock (IRE), 22-1 Classic Speed (IRE)
Not forthe firsttime, OUTGUN shaped betterthanthe bare result when fourth in a Newbury handicap that rates strong form 4 weeks ago and, with the increase in trip rating a likely plus, Alan King’s charge is fancied to prove his mark a workable one. Lady of Arabia should appreciate the return to further and is feared along with another thriving sort Barrolo Leitrim Rock, on handicap debut, is also respected in a hot 3-y-o contest.

PLAY SMARTER
A tricky finale to solve but preference is for VICTORIA FALLS, who bumped into the thriving TemperTrap at Doncaster just over 3 weeks ago and Hugo Palmer’s 4-y-o can go one better down to her last winning mark. Lady Wormsley impressed with her attitude when getting off the mark last time so she may emerge as the main danger, ahead of Astronomica and Comedian Leader
