SUMMER ON THE JULY COURSE: AUTUMN ON THE ROWLEY MILE:The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2023
A warm welcome to the July Course for the final day of the Boodles July Festival, featuring the Group One Pertemps Network July Cup, one of the most valuable and prestigious sprint races in the world.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Pertemps Network, Rossdales Veterinary Clinic, Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa, bet365 and Trustatrader for their sponsorship of today’s card. We are also extremely grateful to Boodles for their generous support across all three days of the Boodles July Festival, along with our betting partner bet365
The Group One Pertemps Network July Cup was first established in 1876 and has since become one of the leading sprint races in the world. A fast and furious six furlongs, the race has an impressive roll of honour, including in recent years with multiple Group One scorers Oxted, Starman and Alcohol Free all adding their names.
Head down to the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure for Darts with the Stars, where racegoers can compete with some of the leading darts players, including Bobby George and Kevin Painter We also encourage racegoers to join us after racing to enjoy a DJ set full of feel-good tunes and dance anthems from Radio 1 DJ Melvin Odoom. Please look at the racecourse map further in this racecard for locations of all activity
Looking ahead, the Newmarket Nights series will continue at the July Course, with further concerts from Craig David, Hacienda Classical, Olly Murs and McFly later in the summer, with tickets for all these events selling fast, and available through our website, www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket.
Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility
I hope that you all have a wonderful time here at Newmarket and wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck
Warm wishes,
Sophie Able Newmarket Racecourses and International DirectorThe multi-award-winning CRAIG DAVID will bring his unmissable show back to Newmarket Racecourses

OTHER USEFUL DETAILS
6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey
7. Saddlecloth number
8. Horse’s name
9. Days since the horse last run
10. Horse’s age
11. Jockey’s weight (stone and Ibs)
12.Thehorse’sbreeding–father(sire)andmother(dam)
13. Horse’s owner
14. Horse’s breeder
15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB)
16. Draw– position ofthe horse inthe starting stalls
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience. Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.
As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2023 season.
Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.
As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.
I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2023 season, the very best of luck.
Have a wonderful day at the races today.

There is plenty of entertainment for guests to enjoy today!
Look out for our roaming musicians out on course today; Hosenbrass, The Bluebirds and the Fat Cats Brass Band.
Don’t forget to strike a pose for the Newmarket Paparazzi who will be taking photos of our guests around the racecourse! Keep an eye out on our Facebook page following The Boodles July Festival for your photos.
Head over to our Grandstand and Paddock enclosure for ‘Darts with the stars’ and challenge yourself against two world class darts players, Bobby George and Kevin Painter – with prizes to be won and selfies to be taken, it’s not to be missed!
For our Garden enclosure guests, families can enjoy mini golf, face painting and garden games!
After racing, get ready to party as Melvin Odoom will be taking to the stage for an epic finale to close The Boodles July Festival 2023!

We are delighted to be officially opening our new Rose Terrace and Champagne Bar across the Boodles July Festival, following an exciting redevelopment project that has taken place.
The Rose Terrace features some of the most spectacular views down the July Course and offers an alfresco dining experience for racegoers, whilst celebrating one of Newmarket’s most decorated trainers.
The Champagne Bar now features some of the most iconic moments of July Course history, including the great Frankel’s debut, and Frankie Dettori’s 3000th winner. With a fully updated interior, it’s a great place for racegoers to relax and enjoy a drink whilst learning more about our racecourse’s history.
The updated Weighing Room now contains top-class facilities for some of racing’s most important participants, the jockeys. Having been fully modernised, these upgrades are the product of cross-industry collaboration and bring the weighing room into line with new BHA standards of practice.
The British EBF will allocate £2 million to prize money in 2023, thanks to the contributions of our British

East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is a charity providing life-saving critical care 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year by air and road.
From road traffic collisions to cardiac arrests to medical emergencies, our specialist doctors, critical care paramedics and pilots bring the advanced skills, equipment and medicine directly to you or your family, in the fastest time possible.
Covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, we bring hope to the most seriously ill and injured people in East Anglia.
Since our launch in 2000, we have attended over 30,000 lifesaving missions, touching the lives of many thousands of people. Our crew comprises specialist pre-hospital doctors and critical care paramedics, operating out of two high-tech helicopters 24 hours a day from our Norwich base and from 07:00 until midnight from our Cambridge base. We were the first air ambulance in the country to attend helicopter emergency medical incidents in the hours of darkness to unknown and unlit sites.
Our motivation comes from a determination and a passion to provide the best possible outcomes to our patients
We receive no regular government funding and rely on the support of our community to keep our two helicopters flying and saving lives.
Thank you to everyone at the Jockey Club and Newmarket Races for your incredible support. We are thrilled to be your collection charity today. Look out for our volunteers, and please donate what you can to support our life-saving work.

Alcohol Free was the star of the show in the July Cup last year, seeing off the likes of Naval Crown and Perfect Power.
The four-year-oldtrained byAndrewBalding was positioned in the middle of the pack for the majority of the race before ridden to lead inside the final furlong. The daughter of No Nay Never kept on well to secure the honours in this feature race
WON THIS CONTEST IN 2018 AND 2019. HE COULD ADD TO THATWITH LITTLE BIG BEAR.
The three-year-old will be keen to continue his impressive start to life on the track with five wins from six starts on the turf The latest of those came at Royal Ascot where he won the Commonwealth Cup
The Michael Dods-trained Azure Blue will be confident of continuing her fine form, having won on her last four starts, with two of those coming this season. The latest of those efforts came in the 1895 Duke Of York Clipper Stakes.
Kinross enjoyed a fine 2022 with two Group 1 wins and two Group 2 victories. He has had just the one run this season, where he finished seventh of 16 in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. Connections will be hoping he can recapture that 2022 form.
The Pertemps Network July Cup, the centrepiece of the three-day Boodles July Festival, is one of the most valuable sprint contests in the European racing calendar, with the 2023 running worth an advertised £600,000 It forms part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.
Sponsored for the first time by Pertemps Network this year, the Group One event, run over six furlongs on the famous July Course, is widely acknowledged as the sprint championship of Europe.
Springfield, bred by Queen Victoria at the Hampton Court Stud, took the inaugural running in 1876, and followed up a year later to become the first dual winner As with many subsequent July Cup winners, Springfield also proved top-class over longer distances, landing the Champion Stakes over 10 furlongs in 1877
Other outstanding victors in the early years included Sundridge, successful in 1902, 1903 and 1904 - the only triple winner in the history of the race. The son of Amphion was a true rags to riches story, having graduated from selling company. He was also a great success at stud, being a highly influential sire in Europe and North America.
The great mare Diadem added to her victory in the 1917 1000 Guineas by scoring in 1919 and 1920. Diomedes, a grandson of Sundridge, recorded a brace of victories in 1925 and 1926, on the latter occasion dead-heating with Phalaros, while flying grey Abernant landed the spoils in 1949 and 1950
Another dual winner was Right Boy, triumphant in 1958 and 1959. The son of Impeccable, purchased for 575 guineas by his trainer Bill Dutton - the winning rider on 1928 Grand National victor Tipperary Tim - also landed the Nunthorpe Stakes twice, the King George Stakes twice, the Cork & Orrery Stakes twice (now the Platinum Jubilee Stakes) and the King’s Stand Stakes.
In the 1970s, the July Cup was dominated by the formidable trainer-jockey partnership of the late Vincent O’Brien and Lester Piggott They hit the bullseye four times during the decade, kicking off with Thatch in 1973, followed by Saritamer (1974), Solinus (1978) and Thatching (1979)
Piggott continued his excellent form in the race into the next decade, securing the 1980 renewal aboard Moorestyle. This kick-started an outstanding period for the July Cup, with the next five winners - Marwell (1981), Sharpo (1982), Habibti (1983), Chief Singer (1984) and Never So Bold (1985) - all rated as the best sprinter in Europe in their year.
The 1990s saw two big upsets in the July Cup. Hamas, a 33-1 shot, triumphed under Willie Carson in 1993, getting the better of favourite College Chapel to deny Lester Piggott an 11th success in the event, while Compton Place shocked punters when landing the prize at 50-1 under Seb Sanders four years later.
Agnes World holds the distinction of being the first ever Japanese-trained winner in Britain when taking the 2000 July Cup. Trainedby HideyukiMoriand riddenbyace Japanese jockey Yutaka Take, he prevailed in a thrilling finish by a short-head from Lincoln Dancer with another short-head back to Pipalong in third.
As with so many Group One races, Vincent O’Brien’s successor at Ballydoyle, the unrelated Aidan O’Brien, has enjoyed great success in the July Cup with a joint-record five winners courtesy of Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019).

Shaquille produced a remarkable performancewhen overcoming aterrible start inthe Commonwealth Cup at RoyalAscot but his issues with the stall remains a slight concern (refused to enterthem on intended reappearance and blanketed/led in riderless last 2 outings) Kinross is another to consider

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
