As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2023 season.
Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.
As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.
I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2023 season, the very best of luck.
Have a wonderful day at the races today.

PEBBLES, Sayyedati, User Friendly, Crimplene, Jupiter Island, Warrsan – the list goes on. All – and many more top-class-racehorses – were masterfully trained by Clive Brittain in a glittering career that spanned over 40 years.
But while the name on the licence might have been his, Clive has always maintained that he was a joint-partner alongside his wife Maureen in what was undoubtedly a wonderful success story. “She was the brains, I was the brawn,” recalls Brittain in typical self-deprecating style. Of course, he was so much more than that Clive’s modesty is just one aspect of the natural charm and warmth that has made him beloved within the sport of racing Plus, the history books record that Clive was truly gifted when it came to the horses under his care
Clive and Maureen met at the Newmarket stables of Sir Noel Murless, by whom they were both employed for many years. Maureen was the champion trainer’s secretary and Clive worked as a stable groom, renowned for his superb skills in the saddle With Sir Noel’s retirement drawing ever closer, Clive and Maureen made the decision to set up on their own in business, starting out in 1972 with about 15 horses at Pegasus Stables on the Snailwell Road Those 15 or so horses quickly doubled in number and a few years down the line the Brittain string passed the 100-mark at Carlburg Stables It even grew to be 150-strong as Clive became not just one of the sport’s top trainers, but also among its most popular.
A Brittain winner on the big stage would invariably be greeted by a celebratory song or a dance from the man who had saddled it As one who had seen it all before, Maureen, might say at such times, “Don’t encourage him!” But her pleasure in her husband’s achievements was always apparent, as was her pride in what they had worked so hard to develop.
Maureen’s knowledge of the sport was deep, extending right through bloodlines and she would always mark up the catalogues before Clive attended the sales It was almost inevitable, then, that when she started breeding racehorses from a small band of mares that it would be a successful venture. Her orange and brown racing silks became a familiar sight in the winner’s circle, including at her beloved Royal Ascot where the homebred World Premier landed the Chesham Stakes in 1995
There were so many wonderful shared moments together that Clive finds it impossible to pick out a favourite one, but typically he sums it all up very neatly “We had a fantastic life,” says Clive.

Only six runners but not the easiest Group 3 to assess ALDAARY was firmly on the up when last seen out so is taken to defy his long absence and extend his winning sequence to four for his in-form handler Jumby has his fitness proven so is feared most on the back of a recent success in Haydock’s John of Gaunt Stakes, while last year’s winner Pogo can’t be discounted despite failing to fire so far this term.

An interesting fillies’ handicap ROYAL CHARTER is selected to build on her promising handicap debut/reappearance run at Haydock with the step up to 1m likely to suit. One Morning shaped well in an Ascot handicap on her reappearance and should have more to offer so she’s second choice. The unbeaten Dora Milaje and recent Newbury scorer Chealamy are others likely to have a say.

PLAY SMARTER
The vote in this competitive handicap goes to V TWELVE, who was successful at Windsor off 1lb higher on his sole previous start over this trip and, judged on this season’s efforts at around 1 1/2m, dropping back to this distance could be just the ticket Despite his odds-on failure when bidding for the hat-trick lasttime, Dog Foxremains ofinterest and is second choice ahead ofrecent Riponwinner Blueflagflyinghigh. Sandown 1-2 Zara’s Return and Serengeti Sunset need considering, too.
