24 JUNE 2023
SATURDAY
SUMMER SATURDAY

As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2023 season.

Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.

As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.

I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2023 season, the very best of luck.

Have a wonderful day at the races today.

www.albasti.com

Welcome to the July Course for the first of our Summer Saturdays series which runs throughout June, July and August.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank House of Cavani, the European Breeders Fund and Racing TV for their support of this afternoon’s card, which includes some competitive handicaps.

Away from the action on the turf, we have a huge range of free activities for everyone to enjoy. For those in the Garden Enclosure, make sure to head down to the bouncy castle and helter skelter, whilst those in Grandstand & Paddock can enjoy a silent disco in the Marwell Bar.

Looking ahead, next week the Newmarket Nights series of music fixtures kicks off, with Bastille performing live after racing on Friday 30th June There are further concerts from Craig David, Hacienda Classical, Olly Murs and McFly later in the summer, with tickets for all these events selling fast, and available through our website, www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket

The Boodles July Festival, which is the highlight of our summer, is just three weeks away From Thursday 13th July to Saturday 15th July, and including our annual summer Ladies’ Day, the Festival Friday and July Cup Day, this year is proving as popular as ever Packed full of Group racing, with the feature the Group One July Cup on the Saturday, there is something for everyone to enjoy both on and off the track. Join us for unrivalled fashion, food and entertainment, but tickets are selling fast, so be sure to book yours soon.

Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility.

I do hope you have a very enjoyable afternoon with us, and I wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck

Warm wishes,

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETINGTHURSDAY 29TH JUNE AFTERNOON RACING

BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 4, 12.

Stewards Note: RAVEN’S UP: Following its run on 12/6/2023 it was reported that the horse lost a shoe.

Probable S.P’s: 11-2 Mereside Diva (IRE), 13-2 Sophia’s Starlight (FR), 8-1 Just Janet (GB), My Delilah (IRE), Torfrida (GB), 11-1 Aira Force (GB), Beau Roc (GB), 14-1 Raven’s Up (IRE), Tangled In Time (GB), 16-1 Zabbie (GB), 18-1 Tallulah Myla (IRE), 22-1 Revisit (GB)

PLAY SMARTER

Plenty arrive with claims, including SOPHIA’S STARLIGHTwho ran well when third over further at Chester 7 days ago, that despite possibly making her effort earlier than ideal. The return to sprinting won’t inconvenience her on that evidence and all looks set fair for another big run. Nottingham-scorer Mereside Diva is a threat, along with My Delilah and Torfrida.

2022: NO CORRESPONDING RACE

Hood worn by No 6. Blinkers worn by No 3. Tongue Strap worn by No 2.

Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 5.

Stewards Note: MASTERCLASS: Following its run on 1/6/2023 it was reported that the horse may have had a breathing problem.

Probable S.P’s: 10-3 Hot Chesnut (GB), 4-1 Danzart (IRE), 9-2 Cubanista (GB), 15-2 Dion Baker (IRE), 17-2 Alibaba (GB), 11-1 Masterclass (GB), 14-1 Magical Max (GB), 18-1 Sir Titan (GB)

The well-handicapped ALIBABA is worth a chance to build on an encouraging run at Beverley last time. Cubanista has had the form of his latest Yarmouth second boosted by the winner going in and he’ll be a threat if the blinkers work as well a second time. The thriving Danzart should also be on the premises. TIMEFORM

PLAY SMARTER

THE GREEN MAN arrives on a hat-trick having powered away at York last time and, in a less-competitive event, he’s fancied to defy another rise. Above showed more encouraging signs last time, so he’s regarded as a threat, while Ernie’s Valentine can’t be ruled out.
