THE SPRING MEETING

Official Racecard - £3.50
20 MAY 2023
SATURDAY

As a leading distributor of horse feed, bedding and supplements in the greater GCC area, I am once again immensely proud to support the Jockey Club at Newmarket Racecourses for the 2023 season.

Newmarket is credited as being where thoroughbred racing first started which is why so many from every corner of the world assemble and appreciate The Rowley Mile and The July Course.

As ever, the enthusiasm of Sophie Able and her team at Newmarket translates into a top class service for Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff and for that we are deeply grateful.

I would like to wish all those visiting Newmarket throughout the 2023 season, the very best of luck.

Have a wonderful day at the races today.

www.albasti.com

A warm welcome to Newmarket Racecourse and the final day of the Spring Meeting, which also marks our final day at the Rowley Mile, before we switch over to the July Course for the summer months.

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the EBF and Molson Coors, who are supporting races across today’s card. I would also like thank Darley, who are offering enhanced prize money to a series of races across the season, aimed at horses who are beginning their careers in Novice and Open Maiden races.

Off the track, we encourage racegoers to explore the entertainment we have on site and help us with a Celebration of Suffolk. Head down to meet the Suffolk Punches in the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure, or visit the Garden Enclosure where the Spitfire and Hurricane Planes are – are you one of the lucky ones who have won a chance to sit in the Spitfire plane? There are also family activities for all to enjoy, including garden games, facepainting and a bouncy castle

Looking ahead, we now move across to the July Course for the summer months There is a lot to look forward to, including the Boodles July Festival, which combines the best of racing with fashion and fun across three days in July, along with our famous Newmarket Nights which return for another year This year, we have a number of exciting acts to look forward to including Craig David, Hacienda Classical and Bastille, tickets for all of which are selling fast and available through our website, www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket

Across the season, we would like to thank the European Breeders Fund for their contributions to prize money and Al Basti Equiworld for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility.

I hope that you all have a wonderful time here at Newmarket and wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck.

Warm wishes,

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETINGFRIDAY 23RD JUNE SUMMER EVENING RACING

BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Running for the first time since Gelding No 1.

Stewards Note:

ACOTANGO: Following its run on 29/4/2023 it was reported that the horse hung right-handed.

JUSTBRING IT: Following its run on 5/4/2023 it was reported that the horse would benefit from quicker ground.

Probable S.P’s: 4-1 Acotango (IRE), 9-2 Ceanna (GB), 11-2 Totnes (IRE), 8-1 Good Gracious (GB), 17-2 Gulmarg (IRE), 12-1 Burdett Road (GB), 16-1 Chelsea Green (IRE), 20-1 Just Bring It (IRE), 25-1 True Statesman (IRE), 28-1 She’s Hot (GB), 40-1 Yellow Lion (GB)

PLAY SMARTER

Several to consider in this competitive handicap with TOTNES top of the list. The Kingman filly appeared to win with a bit left up her sleeve at Lingfield and this 5lb higher mark may not be enough to stop her, provided she is able to translate her all-weather progression back on turf The form of Acotango’s Haydock reappearance effort is solid and he is greatly respected, while Ceanna and Good Gracious are also appealing.

MONTASSIB shaped well enough when fourth at Haydock recently to think he might have more to offer again this year so he’s taken to resume winning ways The Gatekeeper and Star of Orion were 1-2 in a C&D handicap at the Guineas meeting and might be the pair to give the selection most to think about.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
