NEWMARKET WELCOMES YOU Welcome to the Rowley Mile. Welcome to Newmarket Racecourse for the third day of our Spring Meeting, the Festival of Suffolk Raceday. Today is all about bringing together the communities of Suffolk in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. It is the first in a series of fully inclusive Festival events across the county. We have seven compelling races to savour on the track and our opener, the Denbury Homes Fairway Stakes, is a Listed contest. This means the horses competing are of a very high quality and could be vying for honours in the big races throughout the year. I would like to thank Denbury Homes, TRU7 Group, Birketts LLP and Festival of Suffolk for their generous support of today's racing. We are also grateful to Al Basti Equiworld for their continued sponsorship of our Owners and Trainers facility and to the European Breeders Fund for their on-going contributions to prize money. Away from the action on the turf, we have a huge range of activities for everyone to enjoy. Get up close to two beautiful Suffolk Punch horses on the Hyperion Lawn and be sure to head to the Garden Enclosure, where you can find an iconic Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane on display. There is an arts and crafts activity zone, where young racegoers can make their own crowns and have their faces painted. There is also a fancy dress competition for children and the brilliant education charity Racing to School has two mechanical horses so you can have a go at riding a finish. The Haverhill Silver Band will be performing throughout the day and we have roaming musicians adding to the ambiance. I hope that you all have a wonderful time here at Newmarket, celebrating all that is great about the county of Suffolk, and I wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck. Best wishes, SOPHIE ABLE General Manager of Newmarket Racecourses

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING - FRIDAY 17 JUNE EVENING RACING - PALOMA FAITH LIVE Double platinum and BRIT award-winning artist Paloma Faith will embark on a huge UK summer tour in 2022 that will visit Newmarket Racecourses on Friday 17th June. Expect incredible vocals, fantastic outfits and a spectacular production when Paloma headlines after evening racing!

Welcome to this Special Day - celebration of all that is best about Suffolk. Thank you for being part of this very special day as we celebrate the awe-inspiring Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. This is one of the first events of the Festival of Suffolk, an exciting range of county-wide activities between now and September that will bring generations and diverse communities together to celebrate the Jubilee. And what better way to start the festivities than to enjoy an afternoon at Newmarket Racecourse, the home of international racing, to celebrate The Queen’s affection for Suffolk and her lifelong passion for the breeding and racing of horses. We all have our special reasons for loving Suffolk, but our beautiful landscape can often disguise the poverty, isolation and hardship that some in our community face. Your generosity today will allow our Festival Fund, held by the Suffolk Community Foundation, to support many people and organisations working hard to help and support those most in need. We will also be supporting the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital that will help to transform medical facilities for young people in Suffolk and across East Anglia. The Festival of Suffolk is for everyone, as together we recover, reset and recharge following the challenges of the Covid pandemic. Our guests today include many who served on the front line in our ‘blue light’ services, and we thank them all for their wonderful service and support. Together, in joyful celebration, the Festival will create a powerful legacy to increase the visibility of our county and improve local lives for many years to come. My warmest thanks to all those who have organised our day, in particular The Jockey Club, and those who have sponsored the races and those who have brought some very special displays and activities for us to enjoy. Wishing you a happy and enjoyable afternoon and thank you for your support. Clare, Countess of Euston H.M. Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk

PLAY SMARTER

A competitive handicap sprint for 3-y-os. HAYMAKER showed good pace when making a winning return over 7f here 2 weeks ago and could have more to come back at this trip, so shades the vote over Harry Three, who took his form to another level when placed over this C&D the last twice. Lir Speciale is a useful prospect heading into handicaps and is another to consider.

All newcomers and a potentially red-hot race. Godolphin’s FAIRY CROSS is a daughter of Dubawi and appeals as much as any on paper, though the market might tell a different story with the owners fielding 2 others and Distinguished Lady, purchased for 400,000 gns earlier this year, and Inverlochy very much likely sorts, also.

Emergency Procedures

Newmarket Racecourses has put in place a number of security and safety measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment. However an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions calmly and quickly. Please take your belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course, the most likely scenario is that you will be ushered onto the track itself via the emergency gates. From there you will be held in an area of safety and receive further instructions as appropriate. It may give you some peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, please remember in the event of an emergency: TAKE YOUR BELONGINGS WITH YOU. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE STEWARDS, PROCEED QUICKLY AND CALMLY TO THE SAFE AREA. Racegoers are reminded to keep all their belongings with them at all times, and not to leave any packages unattended. Any such packages may be confiscated by the Racecourse Management.

Health And Safety Notice

The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Newmarket Racecourses. The emergency exits from the bars onto the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area. We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the first aid room is located adjacent to the main Premier Enclosure Entrance (Rowley Mile) or Premier Entrance 2 (July Course).

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials are here to ensure that the racecourse delivers those standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs two veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

Photography

Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the racecourse enclosures. Photography is not permitted in any other area without the permission of the Head of Racing. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication. Racegoers are reminded that flash photography is not permitted as the flash can alarm horses and may endanger horses, jockeys and public.
