22nd-31st August 2026

It’s here! Let’s celebrate National Racehorse Week! Yards, studs and aftercare centres across the country are opening their doors to celebrate the love, care and attention that racehorses receive 365 days a year.

nationalracehorseweek.uk

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to our Schools’ Celebration Raceday. To begin, I would like to extend my thanks to today’s racing partners: Pump Technology, Bricklayers Arms, European Breeders’ Fund, Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, Gracelands, BetVictor and Sheldrake Training Limited. Today is a very special occasion as we celebrate our inaugural Schools’ Celebration Day, with thousands of children, parents and teachers joining us for an afternoon packed with fun, entertainment and of course, racing. We’re delighted to have been able to offer free admission to pupils and parents from more than 350 schools across the region, with every pupil’s ticket including complimentary admission for up to two adults. There is plenty to enjoy around the Racecourse today, including face painting, arts and crafts, disco dance parties, an inflatable obstacle course, horse simulators, cricket activities, sporting challenges, jockey autograph signings, a sensory unit, a reading area, a doodle wall, and much more. Please visit page 10 to see everything on offer today. Whether you’re trying racing for the first time, taking part in one of our activities, or simply enjoying a family day out, we hope you have a fantastic time with us. We are also proud to be supporting National Racehorse Week, a nationwide celebration showcasing the care, training and daily lives of thoroughbred racehorses. The spotlight falls firmly on the next generation on the track today too, with four of this afternoon’s contests restricted to two-year-olds on the straight course. Among them is the IRE Incentive, It Pays to Buy Irish Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over six furlongs, which has attracted a competitive field of 11 runners. The race has proved a reliable guide to future stars, with previous winners including Sky Majesty and Sense of Duty, both of whom progressed to achieve multiple Group-race successes. A particularly intriguing contender in this race is Bidsta from the in-form George Boughey yard. The unraced daughter of Mehmas created plenty of interest when purchased for 380,000 guineas and makes a highly anticipated debut here. An hour before the first race, we’ll stage the first of two pony races. Pony racing provides a fantastic platform for the next generation of jockeys, with stars such as Billy Loughnane competing in pony races before going on to enjoy success at the highest level of the sport. Following today’s raceday, our attention turns to the ever popular Dubai Duty Free International Weekend on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th September. This renowned fixture features top-class racing, including the historic Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, alongside a range of on-site entertainment and an after party. Tickets are available from just £22, but early booking discounts end on Friday 11th September so don’t wait too long. Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you enjoy your time with us and look forward to welcoming you back for the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend. Shaun Hinds Chief Executive Newbury Racecourse 3

How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do: 1.

Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: •

‘To win’ is for your

•

‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your

horse to come first. horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. •

What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.

•

The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Please gamble responsibly. For more information visit www.gambleaware.co.uk
