EVENING RACEDAY

EVENING RACEDAY
How
Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.
Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the Grosvenor Sport Evening Raceday.
We have an enjoyable afternoon and evening ahead, and I would like to extend our sincere thanks to today’s sponsors: Racing Club, Compton Beauchamp Estates, the European Breeders Fund, Pump Technology, Jebel Ali, and our title partner, Grosvenor Sport.
At 5pm, we’re proud to host the Racing Staff Week Stable Staff race, supported by Racing Welfare. This special event features 12 dedicated riders who have been training hard and raising funds. The race is part of the wider Racing Staff Week initiative, which celebrates the passion, skill, and commitment of racing staff across the industry. Their tireless work is the backbone of our sport, and this initiative led by Racing Welfare is a wonderful way to recognise and thank them, including our own fantastic team here at Newbury Racecourse.
This evening’s racing action begins with an apprentice race over one mile and three furlongs. Local trainer Dominic Ffrench-Davis will be hoping to secure a seasonal hat-trick with previous course and distance winner, Boy George. The second race is our first two-year-old contest, with only five of the 15 declared runners having prior racecourse experience The feature race at 6:45pm, the £40,000 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Stakes, is also for two-year-olds. Godolphin homebred Miss Honey looked impressive on her debut at Kempton under William Buick, and will be hoping to replicate that form on turf.
Don’t rush off after the final race long-standing sponsor Pump Technology is hosting the ‘Pump It Up After Party’ on The Crafty Filly terrace.
Looking ahead, our popular Summer Evening Series returns this July with three exciting raceday parties, once again presented by our valued partner, Hits Radio The series takes place across three Thursday evenings, each with its own unique theme: The 70s Disco on Thursday 3rd July, The Wild Wild West on Thursday 10th July, and The Ibiza Beach Club on Thursday 24th July For the best value, look out for our Three Party Pass, offering access to all three events from just £49.
2025 also marks our biggest ever year of music, with four spectacular music racedays in the calendar We’re thrilled to welcome Sophie EllisBextor and Ella Henderson for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day on Saturday 19th July, Bjorn Again on Friday 15th August, Clean Bandit for Visit Malta Hungerford Day on Saturday 16th August, and James Bay as part of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend on Saturday 20th September Discounted tickets, passes, and hospitality packages are available for a limited time via our website.
Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. I hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, and we look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday 3rd July for our next raceday.
Shaun Hinds Chief Executive Newbury Racecourse
There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.
