Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to our Summer Evening Series Raceday featuring The 70s Disco – the first of three exciting raceday parties in partnership with Hits Radio. We have a fantastic evening lined up, and I’d like to extend our sincere thanks to today’s partners: Sequoia Hair and Beauty, Gracelands, the European Breeders Fund, Fidelity Energy, BetVictor, LOCALiQ, Pump Technology and our Summer Evening Series title partner, Hits Radio. The third race of the evening, The Fidelity Energy Green Future Novice Stakes for two-year-olds over six furlongs has attracted 11 runners, including the Irish raider Alaskan Bear. County Meath trainer Jack Davison has enjoyed success here at Newbury and this 95,000 guineas son of Kodiac was last seen at The Curragh in May, finishing fourth to subsequent Coventry Stakes winner, Great Barrier Reef, in the Marble Hill Stakes (Group 3). Away from the track – and following its debut in 2023 - the Summer Evening Series returns bigger and better thanks to our partnership with Hits Radio. Tonight, we kick off with the ever popular 70s Disco. Expect iconic 70s anthems, roaming disco dancers, spot prizes for the best-dressed guests, and an afterparty you won’t want to miss. The Party Tent will be buzzing all evening, so be sure to stop by and soak up the retro vibes. The series continues next week with the return of The Wild Wild West on Thursday 9th July, featuring line dancing classes and a rodeo bull. Then, on Thursday 23rd July, we wrap up the series with The Ibiza Beach Club – the ultimate summer closing party. It’s not just the Summer Evening Series on offer either, there are four big music racedays in the diary this month and next. First up are the Gipsy Kings on Friday 17th July, followed by Ronan Keating on Saturday 18th July for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day. A month later, Tinie Tempah performs on Friday 14th August, before Jessie J takes to the stage on Saturday 15th August, both as part of Visit Malta Hungerford Weekend. You can expect top-class racing followed by outstanding live entertainment. Early Bird tickets are available from just £29 but only until 11:59pm tomorrow for Tinie Tempah and Jessie J, so make sure you don’t miss out on this great saving. We are delighted to have the Newbury Racecourse team taking part in this weekend’s Racing Welfare 10 Peaks Brecon Beacons Challenge. The team will tackle a demanding 22-mile trek across the Welsh mountains to raise funds for Racing Welfare. Further information, along with a link to support the team via their JustGiving page, can be found later in the racecard. We wish everyone taking part the very best of luck. Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable evening and look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday 9th July for the next instalment of the Summer Evening Series: The Wild Wild West. How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do: 1.

Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: •

‘To win’ is for your

•

‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your

horse to come first. horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. •

What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.

•

The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Please gamble responsibly. For more information visit www.gambleaware.co.uk

Race Summary: TOPAZ ran a cracker first time up when going down narrowly at Newmarket and with her subsequent Albany effort easy to put a line through, Jack Channon’s filly is fancied to make it third time lucky at the expense of Avalon Queen, who has a smart pedigree and shaped with plenty of encouragement on debut here last month. Of the newcomers, Marsala, Art of Life and Nuit d’Eclair make most appeal before the benefit of market clues. 1-2-3: 1.TOPAZ (IRE) 2.AVALON QUEEN 3.MARSALA (IRE) FREE form for all British and Irish meetings is available online every day at timeform.com/free
