THURSDAY 10TH JULY 2025

THURSDAY 10TH JULY 2025
How
Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.
Howdy, and a very warm welcome to our Summer Evening Series Raceday featuring The Wild Wild West the second of three exciting evening meetings in partnership with Hits Radio.
We have a fantastic evening ahead, and I’d like to extend our sincere thanks to today’s partners: Pump Technology, Highclere Castle Gin, Juddmonte, the European Breeders Fund, new partner Orida Hotels, and our Summer Evening Series title partner, Hits Radio.
Pump Technology - a proud sponsor at Newbury for over 20 years - feature on this evening’s card, celebrating their longstanding partnership with Jonathan Portman Racing during the first and second races.
We are also delighted to announce the opening of Filly’s, a brand-new sparkling wine bar in partnership with Chapel Down. All racegoers are warmly invited to join us in celebrating this exciting new destination located beside the Hampshire Stand.
The feature race of the evening is the £30,000 Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes a Class 2 contest for two-year-olds over 6 furlongs. A field of 12 has been declared, and the Richard Hughes-trained colt, Shaman Champion, is the only previous winner in the race, likely to be near the top of the betting. Local trainer Jonathan Portman, who is enjoying a terrific season so far, has a chance of winning his own race this evening with Brisk Symphony, who scored nicely at Nottingham two weeks ago
Following its debut in 2023, the Summer Evening Series returns bigger and better in 2025, thanks to our renewed partnership with Hits Radio Known for playing the biggest hits and throwbacks, Hits Radio brings the party atmosphere to the Racecourse with music throughout the racing and an afterparty following the final race.
There’s lots to be excited about this evening - expect country classics, a rodeo bull, cork shooting competitions, line dancing classes, spot prizes for the best-dressed guests, and an afterparty you won’t want to miss. The Hits Radio Party Tent will be buzzing all evening, with DJ Rattlesnake Johnny spinning the best country vibes - be sure to stop by and get involved.
Then, on Thursday 24th July, we wrap up the series with The Ibiza Beach Club - the ultimate summer closing party.
2025 marks our biggest year of music yet, with four spectacular music racedays across July, August and September We’re thrilled to welcome Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ella Henderson for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day on Saturday 19th July, Bjorn Again on Friday 15th August, Clean Bandit for Visit Malta Hungerford Day on Saturday 16th August, and James Bay as part of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend on Saturday 20th September. Discounted tickets, passes, and hospitality packages are available for a limited time via our website.
Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable evening and look forward to welcoming you back on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th July for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day, with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ella Henderson live after racing.

Newbury Racecourse
There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.
