It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to BoyleSports Lockinge with Ladies Day for the first year of our exciting new partnership with Newbury Racecourse.
As Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, we are proud to be the title sponsor of Newbury’s Group 1 flat contest, the BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes until 2027 This prestigious race has a rich history in flat racing, and we are thrilled to play a part in supporting its continued success. At BoyleSports, we are passionate about bringing exciting and world-class racing experiences to fans, and the Lockinge Stakes perfectly aligns with our commitment to the sport. Last year’s renewal produced a shock result with the John & Thady Gosden-trained 22/1 shot, Audience, recording a dominant victory and we hope for similar excitement today.
BoyleSports is steeped in horseracing heritage with an extensive sponsorship portfolio in Ireland that includes the BoyleSports Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse, which offers the largest prize pot of any race on the Irish National Hunt calendar.
BoyleSports has 390 shops in Ireland and the UK, with our retail presence continuing to grow on this side of the Irish Sea, we look forward to welcoming you to one of our shops soon
I wish you all a very enjoyable day.
Vlad Kaltenieks CEO, BoyleSports
Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to our flagship Group 1 raceday, BoyleSports Lockinge with Ladies Day.
We’re delighted to welcome BoyleSports to the Racecourse and I would like to thank them for their valued partnership and involvement in this prestigious day. It’s a pleasure to have the BoyleSports team with us and we look forward to building a strong and lasting relationship
My extended thanks also go to our partners: Sky Sports Racing, Highclere Castle Gin, Trade Nation, Childwickbury Stud, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and World Pool. All eight races on today’s card feature in the World Pool, offering racegoers access to huge international pools by betting through the Tote Our sincere thanks to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for their support in making this possible.
Today’s racing looks as competitive as ever with a bumper £925,000 of prize money on offer across the day’s eight races. The much-loved BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes takes centre stage with legends such as Frankel, Baaeed, and Palace Pier all featuring on the race’s esteemed roll of honour.
The BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes provides the first opportunity for the older milers to gain Group 1 glory and this year’s renewal looks like a brilliant contest with three classic winners amongst the eight-runner field. The locally trained Rosallion looks the one to beat, but the Godolphinowned Notable Speech will be hoping to provide his connections with their 10th success in this race
As always, there’s plenty to look forward to today including live music, a punters’ panel, trips to the start, on-the-spot style prizes, and the return of the Sequoia Hair and Beauty Marquee, where racegoers can enjoy complimentary hair and beauty treatments courtesy of Sequoia Hair.
To round off the day in style, the dynamic duo of Lovely Laura and DJ Ben Santiago have jetted in from Ibiza to bring the summer vibes to our afterparty live after the last race at approximately 5pm!
2025’s our biggest ever year of music with four music racedays in the calendar, including Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ella Henderson (Saturday 19th July), Bjorn Again (Friday 15th August), Clean Bandit (Saturday 16th August), and James Bay (Saturday 20th September). Discounted Early Bird tickets and hospitality packages are available for a limited time via our website.
Finally, I would like to thank all our racegoers for joining us today. I hope you have an enjoyable afternoon and that we will see you again soon for more summer racing.

How To Bet
There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Many Racing enthusiasts will be aware of an industry-wide project currently underway to update and modernise the Weighing Room facilities at UK racecourses.
Here at Newbury we have been working on our plan for some time and I am delighted to announce that this weekend will see the new facilities become operational for the first time.
Our Weighing Room is located in the Berkshire Stand which itself dates back to the 1990s and just by looking at it you can see that it is quite a complicated building by modern standards. Consequently, the layout of the Weighing Room area had a number of constraints and so the task to bring it up to date was quite significant. Work began immediately after our Spring Trials meeting in April to redesign and reconfigure the space.
This work has involved demolishing internal walls, reconfiguring heating, ventilation and electrics, building new walls and corridors to create a dedicated Valet room and the installation of a new washroom area. The work has continued at pace over weekends and bank holidays and was finished on Wednesday evening in time for racing this weekend.
Although now operational, the job is not yet fully finished. There are further refinements to be made in the coming weeks and months as we aim to further enhance the facilities for our professional athletes and all the people who come to do their work in the Weighing Roomwhile we all enjoy the action on the course

The winner of the first running of the Lockinge Stakes cemented an enduring association between his owner Queen Elizabeth II and Newbury Racecourse, which she continued to visit annually. Race Summary: The very well bred MY CLOUD made a mockery of his opening mark when running out a most impressive winner on return/handicap debut at Ascot 17 days ago and a subsequent 10lb hike in the weights may not be enough to prevent Roger Varian’s upwardly mobile 4-y-o going in again. Classic ran well when third to Ebt’s Guard on return in a C&D handicap recently and surely has a race in him from this mark. The returning Boyfriend is another to note.

Race Summary: SHAMEFUL’s reappearance defeat at Kempton may have been viewed as somewhat modest at the time but that certainly isn’t the case now. Indeed, the winner went on to chase home a potentially classy colt in a listed race at Newmarket and, taking that into account, Shameful could be on a very good mark for this handicap bow. Solar Army doesn’t appear entirely straightforward but he’s proving consistent and is second choice with Ryan Moore aboard. The promising Nakeeb also merits respect.
