There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Betting Forecast: 7-2 Magical King (IRE), 4-1 Gamesters Guy (GB), 6-1 Wonderful Eagle (GER), 13-2 Shutupshirley (GB), 7-1 Saint Palais (FR), 11-1 Champagne Twist (IRE), 16-1 Ramo (FR), 20-1 Itseemslikeit (GB), 50-1 Press Your Luck (IRE)
Race Summary: MAGICAL KING should relish this test of stamina, having finished second over C&D in similar conditions earlier this month. He appeals most ahead of Wonderful Eagle who has placed in some good Cheltenham handicaps this season, while Gamesters Guy could be open to more improvement stepping up in trip on handicap debut. 1-2-3:
