FRI 18 SEP 2026

Sponsor of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend Founded on 20th December 1983, Dubai Duty Free has grown into one of the biggest single travel retail operators in the world, with sales of US$2.378 billion in 2025, placing Dubai Duty Free in 5th position amongst the global airport retail operators in terms of turnover. Now employing over 5,600 people, the operation has consistently raised the benchmark for airport retailing, and it continues to grow. Currently operating around 40,000 sqm of retail space across Dubai International and Al Maktoum International airports, Dubai Duty Free has continued its investment in the development and expansion of its retail offering. This includes the opening of a Louis Vuitton and a Cartier boutique in Terminal 3’s Concourse A, which opened in September 2025. In addition, a new Gifts from Dubai shop opened in March 2026. In addition to the retail division Dubai Duty Free operates a Leisure Division which includes The Irish Village both in Garhoud and Studio One Hotel, the Century Village, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, home to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and The Creekside Hotel Dubai. To date, Dubai Duty Free has received more than 800 awards including its record tenth Frontier ‘Airport Retailer of the Year’ Award in 2021. In 2025, Dubai Duty Free won 18 awards, including the Gulf Business Award for “Retail Company of the Year” and the nineteenth consecutive Global Traveler Award for “Best Duty-Free Shopping in the World”. Most recently, in June 2026, it received its 25th consecutive Business Traveller Middle East Award for “Best Airport for Duty Free Shopping in the Middle East”.

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the first day of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend, featuring the Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup. To begin, I would like to extend my thanks to today’s partners: Kennet Valley Syndicates, the European Breeders’ Fund, Haynes Hanson & Clark, Fitzdares, and our title partner for the weekend, Dubai Duty Free. 2026 marks the 31st year of Newbury’s association with Dubai Duty Free and we are delighted to welcome members of the Dubai Duty Free team back to Newbury for what promises to be another fantastic two days of racing. We also celebrate Haynes Hanson & Clark - our second longest-standing sponsor - with this afternoon’s fourth race the 46th running of the Haynes Hanson & Clark Stakes. The historic contest has produced many horses that have gone on to achieve great feats, securing victories in some of the world’s most prestigious races. Today’s card is highlighted by the Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup Stakes, one of the feature seven-furlong contests of the autumn at Newbury. A strong field of ten runners has been declared, headed by the highly consistent Elarak, who arrives seeking a deserved return to winning ways after a series of excellent placed efforts. He faces strong opposition from fellow blacktype performers Myal, Northern Champion, and Fondo Blanco, while course-and-distance winners Forty Years On and Leading Dancer add further depth to what promises to be a fascinating renewal. The Haynes Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes, a race with a rich history of showcasing some of the most promising two-year-olds in training. This year’s renewal has attracted a field of ten, headed by impressive debut winner Bin Jahwar and last-time-out scorer Apulia Bay, while dual winner Flying Pirate and course-and-distance victor King High add further strength to a competitive line-up. Be sure to visit the Dubai Duty Free marquee today, where you can enjoy authentic Dubai hospitality and take part in the ever-popular Wheel of Fortune, with prizes including free entry into the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise and Millennium Millionaire draws. Our 2026 Flat season concludes with the return of Oktoberfest during the BetVictor Flat Finale on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th October. Expect traditional Bavarian entertainment, a great selection of drinks, and plenty of oompah as we bring a taste of Germany to Newbury. It’s set to be our biggest and best Oktoberfest yet with Early Bird tickets available until Friday 25th September. Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you enjoy your afternoon with us and look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow for day two of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend. Shaun Hinds Chief Executive Newbury Racecourse 1

How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do: 1.

Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: •

‘To win’ is for your

•

‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your

horse to come first. horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. •

What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.

•

The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Please gamble responsibly. For more information visit www.gambleaware.co.uk

A Global Icon in Whether it is on the golfing greens, the tennis courts or the racecourse, sponsorship and support of international sporting events have been an integral part of Dubai Duty Free’s marketing strategy since 1983. More than simply marketing the company itself, these sporting endeavours have also helped to enhance the global perception of the emirate.

HERO DUBAI DESERT CLASSIC

The 2026 sporting ‘season’ began in January with the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, which was won by American professional golfer Patrick Reed. As a patron sponsor of the tournament, Dubai Duty Free took part in the Pro-AM competition and entertained a number of guests in style at Emirates Golf Club.

The Championships was won by Jessica Pegula who won her maiden Dubai WTA 1000 title, while Daniil Medvedev, claimed his second Dubai ATP 500 title. Much awareness is also created through the operation’s involvement in horse racing.

Sports Sponsorship Dubai Duty Free regularly flies the flag in the UK at the historic Newbury Racecourse, where it marks the start of the flat-racing season with the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend, which took place in April.

Meanwhile, the world’s premier international jockeys’ challenge, the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup took place at Ascot Racecourse in August and was won by the Great Britain and Ireland team.

DUBAI DUTY FREE SHERGAR CUP DUBAI DUTY FREE SPRING TRIALS WEEKEND

In June, the prestigious Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby was held for the 19th time at The Curragh Racecourse in Ireland, offering a rich purse of €1.25 million. The race was won by Benvenuto Cellini, trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by jockey Ryan Moore.

This September, the distinctive Dubai Duty Free branding returns to Newbury Racecourse for the two-day Dubai Duty Free International Weekend, marking the season finale of the operation’s horseracing sponsorship in 2026.

Race Summary: Marginal preference in this wide-open Listed event is for ELARAK who is taken to gain a deserved first success of the season on the back of a good second in Listed company at Newmarket. Fondo Blanco also arrives in fine fettle and seems sure to go well but might have to settle for a place again. Spy Chief could bounce back after being poorly drawn in the Wokingham and the upwardly-mobile All Moonshine needs factoring in too. 1-2-3: 1.ELARAK 2.FONDO BLANCO 3.SPY CHIEF FREE form for all British and Irish meetings is available online every day at timeform.com/free
