RACEDAY

FRI 15 AUG 202 5

FREE WI-FI

How

Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to our Summer August Raceday, featuring Björn Again live after racing.

To begin, and on behalf of Newbury, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of trainer Bill Turner, who sadly passed away yesterday. As a mark of respect, we will be holding a minute’s silence at 2:50pm. Please join us around the Parade Ring for this tribute.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors: Highclere Castle Horse Feeds, European Breeders Fund, TPT Fire, Sequoia Hair, Christopher Smith Associates, and our long-standing partner, BetVictor.

Today’s feature race is the Sequoia Hair & Spirit St Hugh’s Stakes (Listed Race), a five-furlong contest for two-year-old fillies. A strong field of 14 has been declared, including FLOWERHEAD runner-up in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot representing the in-form Amo team, who also have HOLLYWOOD TREASURE for trainer Kevin Philippart de Foy. Richard Hannon, who last won this race in 2015 saddles former Newbury winner SAPPHIRE STEPS, who also holds an entry in next month’s Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes.

We’re excited to officially launch Bar None this afternoon - our new low and no-alcohol lounge. Located on the ground floor of the Hampshire Stand, Bar None offers a comfortable alcohol-free area serving a wide selection of nonalcoholic beverages, including mocktails, soft drinks, smoothies and hot drinks. 2025 marks our biggest year of music yet, with four spectacular music racedays across July, August, and September Following the success of Weatherbys Super Sprint Day with Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Ella Henderson, we’re thrilled to welcome Björn Again this evening, live after racing. Head to the main stage in the Grandstand Enclosure at approximately 6:45pm to catch the start of tonight’s entertainment - a true ABBA experience

Looking ahead, we’re excited to welcome the return of Visit Malta Hungerford Day tomorrow, with Clean Bandit performing live after the last race If you’d like to join us, tickets are available online and on the gate tomorrow from £50.

BRIT-award James Bay concludes our summer of music, taking to the stage on Saturday 20th September as part of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend. Discounted tickets are only available until 11:59pm on Friday 29th August

We’re also delighted to announce the return of our Christmas parties this year, taking place on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th December. Availability is limited across both dates, so if you’re looking for a unique, themed venue for your festive celebrations, we’ve got you covered. To find out more, please follow the link in the advert featured later in the racecard. Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow for Visit Malta Hungerford Day with Clean Bandit

How To Bet

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:

• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.

• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.

• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.

4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.

5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!

6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.
