Good evening and a very warm welcome to the finale of the Summer Evening Series with Hits Radio and The Beach Club.
Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank tonight’s valued sponsors, our multi-raceday partner BetVictor, Hits Radio, European Breeders Fund, Pump Technology, Gardner Leader and Rayner Bosch Car Service.
We conclude our popular Summer Evening Series tonight with The Beach Club where racegoers can enjoy a range of cocktails as well as live music from our saxophonist, Ash on Sax, and that’s all before an afterparty until approximately 10:30pm with our resident DJ Moonraker – expect Ibiza vibes.
This evening follows a fantastic day’s racing from Saturday where we saw stand out performances from Elite Status in the Fidelity Energy Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) and Caburn in the valuable Weatherbys Super Sprint, who gave his trainer Jack Jones the biggest victory of his career. The Twilight Son colt was sold in Tattersalls Book 3 Yearling Sale in Newmarket last October for £24,000 guineas, what a fantastic training performance for the Jack Jones team. He remains unbeaten in two starts, having impressed at Salisbury on debut and it will be interesting to see how he performs later in the season if he does target the Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2) at York.
Super-producer Sigala made his Newbury Racecourse debut with a fantastic set in front of a crowd of over 10,000 for our first Party in the Paddock.
There’s plenty to come after tonight as our second Party in the Paddock raceday arrives on Saturday 17th August for BetVictor Hungerford Day with Dizzee Rascal performing live after racing. Discounted tickets are still available for this raceday but only until 11:59pm tomorrow (Fri 26th July) – you can secure your discounted tickets on-site today.
As ever, there is free Wi-Fi available to use today in all public areas and if you have any questions or queries during your time with us please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our team.
Thank you for choosing to spend your evening with us. I hope you have an enjoyable time and that we will see you again on Friday 16th August for the Summer Evening Raceday followed by BetVictor Hungerford Day with Dizzee Rascal live after racing on Saturday 17th August.
Shaun Hinds Chief Executive Newbury Racecourse
There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.
