Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the first of two days of thrilling racing action here at Newbury.
We have a fascinating eight race card for you this afternoon, kindly sponsored by Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, Crossland Employment Solicitors, the friends and family of James Cooper, the friends and family of Ivan Crawford, UHY Ross Brooke, European Breeders Fund and our long-standing partner BetVictor.
The highlight of this afternoon’s racing is the Listed IRE-Incentive - Pays To Buy Irish Rose Bowl Stakes, with those enjoying success in previous years including multiple Group race winners, Limato and Tasleet. Always an excellent race for the two-year-olds, we look forward to this year’s renewal.
For those interested in getting closer to the action, make sure you join course expert David Crosse for a Trip to the Start ahead of the 1:50pm and 3:35pm races. We ask that any racegoers keen to make the trip out to the course meet to the left-hand side of the Weighing Room 20 minutes before.
If you are joining us tomorrow, you are in for a treat as we welcome the return of the Weatherbys Super Sprint, with a field of 19 two-year-old horses having been declared. Following the racing action, super-producer Sigala makes his Newbury Racecourse debut on the Party in the Paddock stage, performing live after the last race. If you fancy joining us tickets will be available online until 11:59pm tonight or on the gate tomorrow
There’s plenty to come after the Weatherbys Super Sprint too, including the finale of the Summer Evening Series with Hits Radio on Thursday 25th July courtesy of The Beach Club. This meeting promises an evening of exciting racing and Ibiza vibes including a live saxophonist and an afterparty
As ever, there is free Wi-Fi available to use today in all public areas and if you have any questions or queries during your time with us please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our team.
Thank you for choosing to spend your day with us. I hope you have an enjoyable time and that we will see you again tomorrow for the Weatherbys Super Sprint with Sigala live after racing.

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Makes UK debut for trainer having won twice on Turf in the UAE over 7f and 1m3f, all for today’s jockey Untried on easy ground and reappears without customary blinkers, but freshened up from a break, and looks on an upward curve. (R6 W2 P2) (OR 83)

Off the mark over a mile on Good for today’s pilot, on UK debut for new trainer after two disappointing runs in France. Possible question mark over easier ground, but should get trip well like her Group 1PA winning half-sisters. (R3 W1 P0) (OR 80)

Likeable veteran who was a course and distance winner on Good in 2022. Retains plenty of ability, beating Victoria (2nd, disqualified, wrong weight) on reappearance, and unsuited by the course at Chester latest, this is the toughest field he’s faced for a while though. (R18 W4 P5) (OR 72)

Beaten favourite last two starts, though well ahead of Paramer Angel over 7f at Chester on Saturday. Reunited with stable amateur today whose claim will help, but will need to step up again on current form to win. (R9 W1 P5) (OR 63)
Betting Forecast: 5/4 Winds Of Fortune, 11/8 Mutwahhej Athbah, 5/1 Amirat Al Zaman, 8/1 Victoria, 10/1 Paramer Angel
Race Summary: Three four-year-olds looking to strengthen their credentials for next month’s Derby over this distance. Of those Mutwahhej Athbah won eased down from multiple winning older horses on his most recent start. A long-striding type whose trainer has wanted to step up in trip, he should relish the conditions, though he’ll have to give weight away and wouldn’t want the ground to dry out too much. The well related Amirat Al Zaman is entitled to improve from her win, but that race lacked depth and she may need more time before she’s ready to win at this level. WINDS OF FORTUNE has looked progressive racing in highly competitive big field handicaps and though a slight concern he reappears without blinkers, he has both a turn of foot and stays well.
