Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to our first evening fixture of 2024, the Midsummer Raceday.

We’ve an enjoyable evening in store and our thanks go to today’s partners – Racing Club, Compton Beauchamp Estates, Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, Pump Technology and Jebel Ali Racecourse.

The Betfair Racing Staff Week Stable Staff race, supported by Racing Welfare, takes place at 3:42pm today where you will see 11 riders who have been training hard and raising money to compete. This race is part of the wider Racing Staff Week initiative, which showcases the passion, skill and dedication of all racing staff and whose hard work makes our great sport possible. It is a fantastic initiative from Racing Welfare to show their thanks to those doing an amazing job across the industry, including our very own team here at Newbury Racecourse.

We’re showing our support for those working within racing courtesy of our new Racing Staff Offers. These offers entitle those working within racing to a free ticket for themselves and a friend at two of our upcoming racedays. The first of these is on Thursday 4th July and racing staff can apply for complimentary tickets via www.newburyracecourse.co.uk/racingstaff.

The excitement doesn’t end once racing concludes as the Euro 2024 match between England and Slovenia will be shown on the Parade Ring Lawn at 8pm.

The raceday on Thursday 4th July is the first in our Summer Evening Series with Hits Radio. This series welcomes The Garden Party (Thursday 4th July), The Wild Wild West (Thursday 11th July) and The Beach Club (Thursday 25th July) to the Racecourse over the coming weeks – all of these evening raceday parties promise exciting racing, themed food and drink, live music and a DJ afterparty

And while the Summer Evening Series is just around the corner it’s also now less than four weeks until we welcome super-producer and DJ, Sigala, for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day on Saturday 20th July before Dizzee Rascal - one of the most successful British rappers of all time - joins us at BetVictor Hungerford Day on Saturday 17th August. Discounted tickets – and a range of hospitality packagesare currently available for both racedays, but only for a limited time. Scan the QR codes on pages 14 and 34 to get tickets today!

Finally, I would like to thank all our racegoers for joining us today I hope you have an enjoyable evening and that we will see you again on Thursday 4th July for the Summer Evening Series with Hits Radio (The Garden Party).

Thank You to Today’s Race Sponsors

How To Bet

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:

• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.

• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.

• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.

4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.

5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!

6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Hood, Tongue Strap worn by No. 1. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No. 7. 2023: HURT YOU NEVER (IRE) 4 9 9 Mia Nicholls 4-1 (Adrian Nicholls) 11 ran

Betting Forecast: 10-3 Hurt You Never (IRE), 4-1 Lipsink (IRE), 9-2 Strike (GB), 11-2 Snuggle (GB), 15-2 Chasseral (GB), 16-1 Kodi Red (IRE), 18-1 Kensington Agent (FR), 28-1 Nancy Rose (GB), 40-1 Impeach (IRE)

Race Summary: CHASSERAL is interesting down to 0-70 company for the first time and back up to 6f having finished her race off nicely when fourth of 11 in a Windsor handicap last month. She is on a good mark judged on her peak form for Andrew Balding and gets the nod ahead of last year’s winner Hurt You Never, who did the job well at Ripon and is feared greatly, despite going up 6lb. Lipsink is third choice ahead of Strike and Snuggle.

1-2-3: 1.CHASSERAL 2.HURT YOU NEVER (IRE) 3.LIPSINK (IRE)
