Good afternoon and welcome to a new Jumps season here at Newbury Racecourse with the BetVictor Jumps Season Opener. To mark the start of the 2023/2024 Jumps season, we kick off with the British Horse Society Charity Race at 11:30. Best of luck to all the riders in today’s race, raising money for such a good cause. I would like to thank our sponsors for their generous support of today’s card, including title sponsor BetVictor, Agetur UK, CSP, Pertemps Network and The British Horse Society. For those of you interested, make sure you join course expert David Crosse for the return of our popular Trips to the Jump which will take place for the 1:15pm and 3:00pm races and we ask that racegoers meet to the left hand side of the Weighing Room 20 minutes before. If you are planning on joining us for the Coral Gold Cup meeting on 1 & 2 December, the lowest-priced Early Bird tickets are now sold out and discounted tickets are only available until Friday 24 November. Christmas comes early courtesy of the Coral Gold Cup with two days of breathless racing action, including the prestigious £250,000 Coral Gold Cup. Enjoy on-site entertainment including live music, a carousel, parade ring tours, and then party in the Coral Gold Cup marquee after the racing! Tickets for the Coral Challow Hurdle Day are also on sale – and are available at the Early Bird rate until Friday 1 December – with Under 18s going free to what’s always a family-friendly day. Tickets for 2024’s racedays have also been released. These are currently on priority sale at the brand new Super Early Bird rate, guaranteeing those who book early the best deal. To register for the priority sale – registering is free – simply visit www.newburyracecourse.co.uk/priority. Once you’ve registered, you’ll have immediate access to these bestpriced tickets for next year’s action. We recently had the pleasure of hosting the launch event for Newbury’s Monopoly last week, where we were able to welcome so many of those involved in the creation of a Newbury edition of Monopoly. You will notice the Racecourse has replaced a London classic, Park Lane, along with the Newbury Racecourse Station sitting close by. We’re looking forward to seeing the game on the shelves and it’s sure to be the shortpriced favourite in the Christmas present stakes. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our racegoers for joining us today. We are extremely grateful for all the support you provide us with, and we look forward to welcoming you back again for the Coral Gold Cup meeting. Wishing you an enjoyable and profitable afternoon. Julian Thick Chief Executive Newbury Racecourse

How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Please gamble responsibly. TARYN COLE Taryn is a veterinary student, but the highlight of her weeks is riding racehorses at the yard where she works. Taryn is a keen supporter of our Dead Slow campaign. Crawley, Surrey

STEPH DAVIES

I work for an insurance broker in the New Forest, where I also ride out my Ex-Racehorses in my free time. I am very grateful to Seamus for providing me with a horse for the day and have really enjoyed riding him out in the lead up to the race. Lyndhurst, Hampshire

ANNE GRINDAL Anne is one of our accredited professional senior coaches and an accomplished Team Chase rider. Anne is a fitness enthusiast who reached the final of the SAS Who Dares Wins 2023. Anne is also a farmer! Bedworth, Midlands

NATALIE KING

Natalie is a keen hobby rider, enjoying the countryside with her 27-year-old cob Domino. Now riding racehorses, it’s been a steep learning curve! She was recently given the opportunity to rehome retired racehorse The Whistling Teal. She’s been lucky enough to ride racehorses since February with the team at Fergal O’Brien Racing and is hugely grateful to everyone there for their support (and to the owners generous enough to loan a racehorse today!) Cheltenham

ANNA MACKENZIE Anna loves fitness and has worked in racing in the past so knows how fit she needs to be! Anna enjoys team chasing and hunting. Anna is currently working as a Quantitative Researcher on predictive modelling for horse racing! London

AYESHA MUMTAZ Showjumps to a high level nationally in her spare time. Currently works for a media company working on the British Horse Magazine. Although very busy, Ayesha still finds time to ride out every week. Salisbury

RUTH REAY I’m a farmer’s wife and mum to two teenage girls! We live in beautiful Warwickshire, and I show jump nationally and internationally to 1.30 level. I evented to Intermediate level, Open team chased and have hunted but having the children and a little heart operation made my nerves shatter a little, but I am now enjoying my show jumping success and the challenges that this charity race is providing!! I am very fortunate that I ride-out for Ben Case Racing in Edgecote, who are very kindly providing me with one of their lovely horses (the help that the whole team has given me has been tremendous!) I am fit, keen and ready to win this race!!! Church Lawford, Rugby

KYLIE RODDY

Kylie is a qualified Fellow of the BHS and a successful international event rider who currently competes at 5* level. She runs a livery yard and is the proprietor of the Aqua Equestrian equine therapy centre. She is also a BSHI coach. High Wycombe, Bucks

LUCY BOULTBEE-BROOKS Lucy events up to 2*level and regularly rides out at home for her dad who trains racehorses. London

MAURICE MCCARTHY Over the years, Maurice has raised more than £300,000 for various charities through his horse racing efforts. Maurice’s passion for horse riding and charitable causes is what motivates him to keep going. He understands the importance of giving back to the community and helping those in need, and he does so by putting his skills to good use. The horse he will be riding is the son of Frankel “Evocative Spark”. Poulton, Lancashire
