Now employing over 5,200 people, the operation has consistently raised the benchmark for airport retailing and it continues to grow.
Currently operating around 40,000 sqm of retail space across Dubai International and Al Maktoum International airports, Dubai Duty Free has continued its investment in the development and expansion of its retail offer.
Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO, Colm McLoughlin was also the recipient of two personal awards including being named as one of the 100 Images RetailME “Icons of Retail” in June and was awarded with the unique and one-time Pearl Achievement Award for "Outstanding Contribution to the Travel Industry", which was created to mark the 30th edition of the Arabian Travel Market in May.

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the second day of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend, featuring the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes and the Group 3 Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes.
Both races have been won by some top-class horses in the past with Sakheer storming to victory in the Mill Reef last year.
My thanks go to title sponsors of the weekend, Dubai Duty Free - who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year - for their continued support. A further thanks go to our other partners of the day, Horris Hill School and our HR partner, Conundrum Consulting.
Dubai Duty Free have enjoyed 27 years of partnership at Newbury Racecourse and during that time they have achieved outstanding success as a business and we are immensely grateful for their ongoing and generous support of racing here. We are delighted to welcome Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Colm McLoughlin and members of the Dubai Duty Free team back to Newbury for what is always an enjoyable weekend with us.
The Dubai Duty Free Marquee is well worth a visit with complimentary Arabic coffee and dates on offer, plus the wheel of fortune is back with many prizes up for grabs including entry into the Finest Surprise and Millennium Millionaire draws. If you are joining us today with younger racegoers, please make sure you visit the Paddock Bar where we have some family-friendly activities taking place including sand art and eco face painting. Why not also head over to the Grandstand Enclosure and have a go on the inflatable horse hoppers on the Copper King lawn.
The flat action doesn’t stop this weekend as we will see the third instalment of Oktoberfest at the BetVictor Flat Finale on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 October – and with traditional Bavarian food, a variety of drink plus lots of Oompah, it’s guaranteed to be a fun weekend once again.
I would also like to highlight that this is a weekend of transition at Newbury as Keith Ottesen – Clerk of the Course since 2018 – will be overseeing his last race meeting, with George Hill taking over from Keith after this weekend. We would like to take this opportunity to wish Keith all the best and welcome George to Newbury.
Thank you for choosing to spend your day with us. I hope you have an enjoyable afternoon and that we see many of you back here again for the flat finale in October.

How To Bet
There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Pleasegambleresponsibly.

The welfare of horse and jockey is our top priority. We do everything we can to minimise the chances of horses incurring an injury.
A team of veterinary surgeons is present at every meeting ensuring the safety of the horse. It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. These provide privacy and a calm environment for the vets and connections while the horse is attended to.

Dubai Duty Free’s
Whether it is on the golfing greens, the tennis courts, the racecourse or even the high-seas, sponsorship and the support of international events has been an integral part of Dubai Duty Free’s marketing strategy since 1983. And more than just marketing the company itself, these sporting endeavors have also helped to propel global perception of the emirate.
The 2023 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, which is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free, went fantastically well
The 2023 sporting ‘season’ began in January with the Hero Dubai Desert Classic which was won by Northern Irish player Rory McIlroy. As a patron sponsor of the tournament, Dubai Duty Free took part in the Pro-AM competition and entertained a number of guests in style at the Emirates Golf Club
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the 31st anniversary of the Championships which took place from 19th February –4th March was won by Barbora Krejcikova and Daniil Medvedev, who both claimed their maiden Dubai titles
Much awareness is also created by the operation’s involvement in horse racing and Dubai Duty Free regularly flies the flag in the UK in April at Newbury Racecourse

The 2nd July saw the 16th running of the prestigious Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby held at The Curragh Racecourse in Ireland, which offered a rich purse of Euro 1.25 million. The race was won by Auguste Rodin, which is trained by Aidan O’Brien with Ryan Moore as the jockey.
Meanwhile, the world’s premier international jockeys’ challenge, the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup took place at Ascot Racecourse in August Four teams representing Great Britain and Ireland, Europe, Rest of the World and The Ladies team competed in a thrilling six-race showdown, which was won by the latter.
Also in September, the distinctive Dubai Duty Free branding is back at Newbury Racecourse for the two-day Dubai Duty Free International Weekend, which marks the season finale of the operation’s horseracing sponsorship in 2023.
The airport retailer returned to Ireland as an official partner of the Horizon Irish Open, which was held at the K Club in September.
Other sports to benefit from Dubai Duty Free’s support include the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup and the Emirates Airlines Dubai Rugby 7’s to name a few .

The race which honours one of the greats of the turf, the legendary Mill Reef, stages its 51st running today.
The 6f contest, sponsored by Dubai Duty Free, has been a constant feature at Newbury since Mon Fils, trained by Richard Hannon snr, captured its inaugural running, going on to win the 2,000 Guineas the following year.
Mill Reef had recently been retired when the race was named after him. Then a four-year-old, he had been put on a path towards the 1972 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe but he never made it to Longchamp a second time after suffering a career-ending injury on the gallops in Kingsclere, near Newbury, where he was trained by Ian Balding.
Yet by then his legacy was already sealed. A winner at the highest level over three seasons, his three-year-old campaign featured triumphs in the 1971 Derby, Eclipse Stakes, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Arc, a sequence that has not been matched since.
His wins at two included the Gimcrack Stakes by ten lengths and Dewhurst Stakes by four. At Newbury he won the Greenham Stakes by four lengths to start favourite for the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket and, after finishing second behind another great Brigadier Gerard, he was never defeated again.
Indeed, at the end of a year which included a six-length triumph in the King George and three length Arc victory, Mill Reef secured ‘Horse of the Year’ honours over Brigadier Gerard.
MILL REEF – THE IMMORTAL CHAMPION
Ian Balding with the great Mill Reef at Park House Stables in Kingsclere.
Kept in training at four when a mooted rematch on the track with his great rival never materialised, Mill Reef won the Prix Ganay and Coronation Cup, which proved to be his final start.
Balding and Mellon combined to win the Mill Reef Stakes in 1982 when the brilliant Forest Flower, Europe’s top two-year-old filly that season, captured the prize. Balding was to win the race a second time with Firebreak 2001.
Mon Fils was one of four winners of the race for Hannon snr, the most by any trainer and a record he shares with Peter Walwyn. Pat Eddery is the most successful jockey, capturing the prize on five occasions.
The race has spawned numerous subsequent Group 1 winners including, during this century, Zafeen, Excellent Art, Dark Angel, Ribchester, who won the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes the following year, and Harry Angel.
Mill Reef (left), ridden by Geoff Lewis, wins the Derby at Epsom in 1971 comfortably by two lengths.

Race Summary: A few with chances but PEARLE D’OR arrives at the top of his game and on a handy mark too so gets the vote at the chief expense of Captain Cuddles, who should prove suited by reverting to this trip.
