Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Newbury for a raceday with a difference.
Today sees us host our Community Raceday and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their generous support of today’s card; British Champions Series and our long-term partner, BetVictor, who in partnership with the Racecourse are proudly presenting an exciting eight-race card today which includes two pony races.
Here at Newbury we’re committed to making racing experiences as accessible as possible and today we throw the Racecourse’s doors open to a significant number of first-time racegoers thanks to new partnerships with Community United and Castle School.
Over 550 people from the local community – the majority of which are children and young people – have been afforded complimentary invitations to today’s racing and a broad range of communities will be represented at the Racecourse with a diverse programme of cultural activities – courtesy of performers from Zimbabwe, India, Cameroon and Afghanistan – taking place ahead of the day’s first race outside the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand.
The programme of activities – which will include dance, music and poetry – is contributed by Community United, a community interest group working to promote inclusivity, equality, and a sense of community for the diverse groups living and residing locally.
Many of the performers will be enjoying live horse racing for the first time, as will the audience welcomed to the Racecourse by another new partner, Castle School. The Castle School – with sites in both Newbury and Theale – caters for children with a variety of complex learning difficulties and over 175 youngsters, aged 3-19, along with their families have been invited to enjoy today’s action.
The pupils and racegoers in attendance will be able to make use of state-of-the-art multi-sensory equipment and resources, installed courtesy of Rhino UK, a leading provider of sensory experiences.
In addition to enjoying today’s cultural performances, make sure you join course expert David Crosse for the popular ‘Trips to the Start’ which will take place ahead of the 2:30 and 3:05 races today. We ask that any racegoers keen to make the trip out to the course meet to the left-hand side of the Weighing Room 20 minutes before their preferred trip.
Thank you for choosing to spend your day with us. I hope you have an enjoyable time and that we see you again for the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend in September
Julian Thick Chief Executive Newbury RacecourseThere are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Pleasegambleresponsibly.

TIMEFORM VIEW Successful at Jebel Ali in January but hasn’t made much of an impact in 5 subsequent starts. Handicapper has shown mercy (eased 5lb since latest start) but, even so, he’s hard to warm to.

TIMEFORM VIEW Kempton nursery winner at 2 yrs and deservedly got his head back in front with a

TIMEFORM VIEW Fair form in a handful of Irish maidens, not beaten far when fourth of 12 at Roscommon (1 1/2m, good to soft) last week. Shapes as though this trip could be ideal and while she needs to improve now handicapping, it’s possible that she’ll do just that with first-time cheekpieces enlisted. TFRHHHII

TIMEFORM VIEW Shaped well all 3 starts in novice company at 2 yrs and knocking on the door this season, finding just one too good upped to this trip at Ripon (good) last time. TIMEFORM VIEW Promise on first 2 starts at Kempton and again when third in a 9-runner Salisbury novice (7f, soft) on turf debut last month. Mark for this handicap debut looks fair and this stiffer test should help but one or two of these are more appealing all the same. TFRHHIII

Race Summary: KHINJANI found only the progressive Gallant Lion, who has gone in twice again since, over this C&D last month prior to going one better at Haydock 17 days ago. She appeared to have more in hand than the winning margin would suggest on that occasion and, up just 2lb, she is taken to strike again. Forest Demon, also successful last time, is feared most ahead of the upped-intrip Gold Aura and handicap-debutant Unlimited.
1-2-3: 1.KHINJANI 2.FOREST DEMON (IRE) 3.GOLD AURA
