Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Newbury for our Summer August Raceday, the first of two days of racing, which culminate with Olly Murs performing live tomorrow at BetVictor Hungerford Day.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their generous support of today’s card; BetVictor, TPT Fire, Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, Christopher Smith Associates, and the friends and family of the much-missed Benny Hutchins.
For those interested in getting even closer to the action today, make sure you join course expert David Crosse for the popular ‘Trips to the Start’ which will take place ahead of the 2:40, 3:15 and 3:50 races. We ask that any racegoers keen to make the trip out to the course meet to the left-hand side of the Weighing Room 20 minutes before their preferred trip.
We are looking forward to the rest of Summer here at Newbury, which includes our second Party in the Paddock raceday tomorrow which will see Olly Murs take to the stage live after racing - tickets and close proximity viewing are available to purchase on-site today from the ticket office adjacent to the Berkshire Stand or on our website until 11:59pm this evening.
The Dubai Duty Free International Weekend then returns on 22 and 23 September and the Early Bird discount – guaranteeing you the lowest price tickets – is only available until next Friday (25 August). October will then see the third instalment of Oktoberfest at the BetVictor Flat Season Finale on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 October, meaning we’ve got two thrilling Autumn weekends packed with top quality racing and entertainment to look forward to.
Thank you for choosing to spend you day with us. I hope you have an enjoyable and profitable time and we will see you tomorrow for BetVictor Hungerford Day.

It is with great sadness that we announce that our equine ambassador Ouzbeck passed away to colic on Tuesday 8 August.
Through our charity partnership with Greatwood he attended numerous meetings over the past few years and was always impeccably behaved and admired by all. Ouzbeck was 21 years old and had retired to Greatwood over 10 years ago. Throughout his time with Greatwood he has been a valuable contributor to all the educational programmes and helped many children and young people

How To Bet
There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Pleasegambleresponsibly.

IN MEMORY OF
MICHAEL ‘BENNY’ HUTCHINS
Today’s race is run in the memory of our dear friend Michael “Benny“ Hutchins, who was born and lived in Newbury all his life.
Benny was a lifelong follower of racing, both as an owner and much respected punter, and it is very fitting that this race is run at his local track just 12 months since his passing.
Unfortunately, Benny sustained a spinal injury whilst on holiday in Portugal in August 1985 at the tender young age of 26 years old, and whilst he spent the following 37 years as a tetraplegic in a wheelchair, he did not let this detract from his love of racing. In later years, he freely offered his time to rattle the collection bucket at the Spinal Injuries race day held annually at Newbury Racecourse.
His favourite meeting of the calendar was the Cheltenham Festival in March and many of his friends in attendance today will have fond memories and stories to reminisce over the years.
We hope that today’s winner of the race will progress through their career, take some of Benny’s strengths and rise to the challenges ahead with the determination and courage just like our good friend Benny did.

TIMEFORM VIEW Confirmed return to form with a dominant display from the front at Epsom (7f) in July and produced another fine effort when runner-up behind a 3-y-o over C&D 22 days ago, headed inside final 1f but keeping on. Well worth considering again. TFRHHHHI

Race Summary: Steadily progressive in novice company, HALLA DUBAI possibly found his early exuberance blunting his finishing effort when fourth on handicap debut at Goodwood (1m) in June. Returning from 56 days off with his yard in good form, he’s worth another chance to prove his mark a workable one partnered by Oisin Murphy. Captain Cuddles, following his good Ascot third, and Be Prepared are others to consider, whilst Zouky is another worth keeping an eye on.
