BOB BARKER IN MEMORY OF
Every Saturday the “3 amigos”: Bob Barker, Steve Manford, Keith Barrett, would meet at their “local” and spend happy afternoons betting on and watching the racing; often joined by a wider group including Mark Woodcock and various spouses. The banter and wind-ups flowed back and forth, interspersed with Bob’s singing. Bob knew the words to a wide and eclectic range of songs, from The Smiths through to Gilbert and Sullivan! And he would take great delight in attempting to sing at any opportunity! He would have a big smile on his face, his shoulders would be moving up and down and he would be banging the table singing his favourite little ditty: “I’ll have a Barcardi, a Coke, a Scotch and lemonade and a Pils and a Pils’.
Bob was a member of Newbury Racecourse, and he would regularly attend with Steve, Simon and Fraser who are also members.
Bob was very popular, jovial, the life and soul of any event. He would help anyone and expect nothing in return, and he was always the first to put his hand in his pocket to buy a drink. His family sponsor this race in memory of “This Charming Man”.
