Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the first day of the BetVictor Jumps Finale Weekend here at Newbury.
My thanks go to BetVictor today as title sponsors of the two-day fixture. Today, BetVictor are dedicating a race to remember their colleague Luke Howliston. Members of his family will be presenting the winning trophy for the 3.10 race which is named in his memory.
For those interested in getting even closer to the action, make sure you join course expert David Crosse for the popular Trips to the Jump which will take place ahead of the 2.05 and 3.40 races today. We ask that any racegoers keen to make the trip out to the course meet to the left-hand side of the Weighing Room 20 minutes before their preferred trip.
It is not long now until the Peter O’Sullevan Lambourn Open Day which takes place on Good Friday, 7 April. If you are interested in a chance to see behind the scenes at one of the UK’s major racehorse training centres, then I would highly recommend a visit. Tickets are available on our website for £15 or in Lambourn on the day
Following this weekend our attention will turn to the start of the Flat season on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 April when Classic hopefuls will be in action at the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend. This fixture will also see the return of the popular Beer Festival featuring over 30 real ales and ciders from local brewers. We are in for a whole host of entertainment that weekend including trips to the starting stalls, live music and the chance to win some exclusive Dubai Duty Free gifts!
We also have some special additions on Saturday 22 April including the opportunity to meet a retired racehorse plus a live band after racing. Tickets are only available at discounted Early Bird prices until 11:59pm tonight and these can be purchased online on our website or at East Gate today. We are also taking bookings for the newly refurbished Hennessy Restaurant which will be back in action for this weekend, so make sure you are one of the first to experience it.
If you’d like to take a look at what’s in store for The Hennessy Restaurant’s refurbishment, simply head to the ground floor of the Hampshire Stand or Berkshire Stand where our display boards give a flavour of what you can expect. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing patience while this exciting refurbishment is completed.
Thank you for choosing to spend your day with us. I hope you have an enjoyable and profitable afternoon and that we will see you again tomorrow the second and final day of the BetVictor Jumps Season Finale.

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Pleasegambleresponsibly.

Betting Forecast: 13-2 Island Run (GB), 7-1 General Probus (GB), 8-1 Ballycamus (IRE), 9-1 Ernest Gray (IRE), 10-1 Shot Boii (IRE), 11-1 Ballymagroarty Boy (IRE), 14-1 Haas Boy (FR), 16-1 Some Scope (GB), 18-1 Raddon Top (IRE), 20-1 Coillte Eile (IRE), 22-1 Way Out (IRE), 25-1 Young Butler (IRE), 28-1 Sporting Mike (IRE), Howaya Now (IRE), 33-1 No Tackle (GB), 66-1 Grey d’Alco (FR)
Race Summary: The vote goes to GENERAL PROBUS, who returned from a two-year absence with a solid effort in defeat upped to this trip at Ascot in November and he will surely have a big part to play if all is well following a break. Island Run is greatly respected on the back of his recent Wincanton success but Ernest Gray, who remains relatively unexposed, is feared most. Ballymagroarty Boy, Ballycamus and handicap-debutant Some Scope are others to consider 1-2-3: 1.GENERAL PROBUS 2.ERNEST GRAY (IRE) 3.ISLAND RUN
