Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Bloomfields
My thanks must go to today’s sponsors for their generous contribution to this afternoon’s seven race programme. Bloomfields Horseboxes are joined by Byerley Stud, the family and friends of Stuart Wright who support our featured Class 2 Novices’ Handicap Chase, and we also extend a special welcome to Kevin and Karen Waller who have chosen to celebrate milestone birthdays with us today.
Our ongoing programme of improvements means The Hennessy Restaurant on the second floor of the Hampshire Stand remains closed today, and I would like to thank racegoers for their patience while this exciting refurbishment continues. Display boards on the ground floor of the Hampshire Stand provide a flavour of what we can look forward to when we unveil this new-look premium facility in April.
There are still four more exciting days of jump racing to enjoy this season at Newbury when we will welcome our valued partner, BetVictor, in support of afternoon racing on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 March featuring the BetVictor Greatwood Gold Cup, and our season finale on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 March This final fixture will also provide us with an opportunity to present the Newburys, our end of season awards promoted in conjunction with Conundrum Consulting, and to take a look back at all the fantastic jumping highlights.
We then turn our attention to the start of the Flat season on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 April when Classic hopefuls will be in action at the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend, which also sees the return of the popular Beer Festival featuring over 30 real ales and ciders from local brewers in our beer tent. Tickets are available to purchase online and bookings are now being taken for the newly refurbished Hennessy Restaurant which will be back in action for this weekend, so make sure you are one of the first to experience it.
Please note that the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand will be closed today due to a private event and, therefore, please try some of our many other areas on site for a wide selection of food or drink. For those football fans in attendance this afternoon we will be showing the Manchester United v Leicester City game (2:30pm kick off) on selected screens across the racecourse including the ground floor of both the Berkshire and Hampshire Stands, as well as The Crafty Filly
Thank you for choosing to spend your day with us. I hope you have an enjoyable and profitable afternoon and that we will see you again for BetVictor Afternoon Racing on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 March.

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Pleasegambleresponsibly.
