Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Newbury for the HEROS Charity raceday, the first of two days of racing, which will culminate with Judge Jules and Ministry of Sound Classical performing live tomorrow on BetVictor Hungerford Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their generous support of today’s card; HEROS, BetVictor, Showpiece Design, Christopher Smith Associates and Martin Collins Enterprises. We are proud to have HEROS as our title sponsor today. Founded by Grace Muir in July 2006, HEROS Charity has earned high recognition for retraining, rehabilitation and rehoming of exracehorses, with a team who are committed to providing the highest possible level of service. Working in partnership with the racing industry, and its champions, HEROS has developed its knowledge and expertise to support these horses that give so much pleasure to so many. We wish the charity race riders today the very best of luck and well done on all the hard work you have put in and funds raised to date. HEROS will be running a bucket collection on exit across the main entrances, if you can, please help support this wonderful cause with a generous donation. With the high temperatures we are currently experiencing, the welfare of our customers, staff and the main stars, the horses, is a priority. Please do stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Water stations can be found on the end of every bar and we recommend you rehydrate often, especially between alcoholic beverages. We work closely with the vets on course as well as the British Horseracing Authority to monitor conditions and our cooling mist fans which are located in the wash-down area will be in operation all day for the runners. We may decide to limit the amount of time horses spend in the parade ring and afterwards in the winners enclosure as part of a number of measures we can put in place to keep everyone as cool as possible. We are looking forward to the rest of the summer here at Newbury including our second Party in the Paddock event tomorrow where we will see DJ Judge Jules and Ministry of Sound Classical orchestra hit the stage after racing serving everyone three decades of dance music! Tickets are still available to purchase until midnight tonight for either our Grandstand or Premier Enclosure. Thank you for choosing to spend your afternoon with us. I hope you have an enjoyable and profitable time, and that you will be back with us again very soon.

• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners first place only; between five and seven runners first and second place; eight runners and over first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) first four places.

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.

2. Choose your bet ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!

Pleasegambleresponsibly.

6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.

How To Bet

• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
