Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the first of two days of thrilling racing action here at Newbury. We have a fascinating eight-race card for you this afternoon, kindly sponsored by bet365, R & M Electrical, European Breeders Fund, UHY Ross Brooke Chartered Accountants, Quickmove, IrishThroughbred Marketing and Crossland Employment Solicitors. The highlight of this afternoon’s racing sees the Listed Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Rose Bowl take place, with winners over the previous years including the multi group winner, Limato back in 2014 and Tasleet in 2015. Always a fascinating race for the two-year-olds, we look forward to seeing who wins this year’s renewal. This afternoon, there will be a special ceremony to unveil a plaque as a permanent reminder of the brilliant efforts of everyone during the pandemic. Just over a year ago, the final vaccination was administered here in the Grandstand and we are delighted to welcome representatives from the nine surgeries involved and some of the 400 volunteers who gave up their time to help with the rollout of over 66,000 vaccinations to individuals across West Berkshire. The plaque will be unveiled at approximately 1.45pm outside the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand by Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire and please come and show your support. With the high temperatures we are experiencing this week, the welfare of our customers, staff and horses is a priority. Please do stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Water stations can be found on the end of every bar and we recommend you rehydrate often, especially between alcoholic beverages. If you are joining us tomorrow, you are in for a treat as we see the return of the Weatherbys Super Sprint, where a field of 21 quality horses have been declared. Following the racing action, Craig David will return to the Party in the Paddock stage to perform a 90 minute set after the last race. Our Premier Enclosure is now sold out, but if you fancy joining us Grandstand tickets are still available for £45. There is plenty to look forward to as we see the finale of our popular Gin Thursday evenings next week on Thursday 21 July where 30 specialty gins will be available plus live music and an after party. Then we see our second Party in the Paddock act on Saturday 13 August for BetVictor Hungerford Day with the Ministry of Sound Classical and special guest DJ Judge Jules. How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground ﬂoor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? Tickets, Badges & Special Offers - in the event of racing being abandoned refunds on admission tickets purchased will be paid as follows: a) abandonment before completion of the first race – full refund; b) abandonment before completion of the third race – 50% refund; c) abandonment thereafter – no refund. Newbury Racecourse will not refund the cost of racecard purchases in the event of abandonment. Cash cannot be refunded on the day. Hennessy & Racegoers Restaurant - If the meeting is abandoned two hours prior to the first race a credit note will be issued. If abandoned before the start of racing, the client has a choice – either transfer the booking to another meeting or continue with meal. To transfer booking to another equivalent meeting, the badge /ticket must be returned. Hospitality Boxes. If the meeting is abandoned prior to the first race or before lunch has been served a FULL REFUND is given. If racing is abandoned once lunch has been taken – 50% REFUND, if abandoned between 1st and 3rd race – 25% REFUND; abandoned after the 3rd race – NO REFUND. Please note proof of purchase (ticket or badge) must be returned to qualify for a refund in all circumstances.

Admission

All tickets, badges and other forms of entry to the Racecourse (including car parks and other surrounding areas owned by the Racecourse) are issued strictly subject to the Racecourse’s terms and conditions of entry. The terms and conditions of entry are available on request from the Racecourse Office and can be found on our website. The Racecourse has the right to refuse admission or expel an attendee where an attendee has breached or is likely to breach the terms and conditions of entry.

Betting

Laying of bets is subject to Racecourse terms and conditions. The Betting Ring Manager is located in the Grandstand ground ﬂoor, opposite Donna Italia, today. Customers of the boards and rails bookmakers should check their itemised tickets immediately on receipt, as mistakes cannot be rectiﬁed after the ‘off’.

Collecting your winnings: If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the ‘Weighed in’ announcement has been made. There may still be a Steward’s Enquiry and the ﬁrst past the post, or placed horses may be disqualiﬁed.
