Good evening and a very warm welcome to the first of our Gin Thursday fixtures which run across three Thursday evenings throughout July. Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to give a special mention to the Laurie Todd Foundation who are the title sponsor of this evening. This charitable foundation was set up by Maundy Todd following the sad death of her husband Laurie who was a Director here at Newbury. This incredibly worthwhile cause has one key objective which is to help with the early diagnosis of oesophageal cancer and I would ask you all to give generously via their online link. Our Gin Thursday’s continue across 7 and 21 July, whilst our Party in the Paddock events kick-off on Saturday 16 July with Craig David live after racing on Weatherbys Super Sprint Day. We have a limited number of Premier tickets remaining now, so make sure you get yourself booked in for a fantastic afternoon of racing and live music. Looking ahead to August, don’t miss Ministry of Sound Classical on Saturday 13, complete with a 34-piece orchestra playing three decades of dance after BetVictor Hungerford Day. Please do explore the site this evening and if you haven’t yet, pay a visit to the first floor of the Berkshire Stand which has recently been refurbished and offers a fantastic terrace with views of the paddock as well as a dedicated Gin Bar. How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? ARAB RACE

Race Summary: Tijaary and Jaahez seek to give their jockeys a winning debut ride on Arabians. Both have won for amateurs in the past and with Jaahez showing signs of a revival, he looks interesting off a lightweight. Their stablemates have been more consistent however and though Al Mahbooba meets Balqees on favourable terms, she’s had plenty of chances and is still a maiden. Jeewan impressed last time, but needs to improve further to turn the tables with BALQEES, who finished ahead of him over this trip last term and is the narrow pick in what looks a competitive affair.
