Welcome to Greatwood Charity Raceday. We have been looking forward to hosting this day for Greatwood following its postponement from 2020 and I very much hope you have a pleasant afternoon with us. As title sponsor, Greatwood is a well-recognised charity within the racing community. Known for their work re-homing former racehorses, they combine equine welfare with the education of disadvantaged children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities through Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI). Here at Newbury, we have enjoyed a long association with the team and earlier this year announced a new partnership with them and retired racehorse Ouzbeck, who became our first equine ambassador for the racecourse. Starting today’s proceedings is the Greatwood charity race which will take place at 12:15pm. Please do come and cheer on these amateur riders who have been training incredibly hard over the past few months, whilst raising valuable funds for the charity - we wish them all the very best. We are also delighted to welcome back Dani Jackson, the UK’s first female race caller in over a decade who will be commentating on all our charity races this year as part of a new initiative we launched earlier this year. Our thanks go our other partners of the day – OCS, KKA, British EBF, Racing TV with a special mention for the memorial race being held in memory of Carol Mulraney. For those of you who have not joined us for a while, please do make sure you visit the refurbished first floor of the Berkshire Stand. With a dedicated Gin Bar, lounge seating and a new terrace area overlooking the paddock, we very much hope you enjoy this new Premier area. One final mention, Greatwood will be conducting a bucket collection on exits and I know they would be hugely grateful for any donations. I hope you have an enjoyable and profitable afternoon and that we may see some of you back here over the next couple of months for some of the best of British summertime racing. How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground ﬂoor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash?
