Good afternoon and a warm welcome to the first day of the BetVictor Jumps Season Finale. Today’s racing is out of the top drawer, featuring some hugely competitive racing on a card that showcases some stars of the future. My thanks go to today’s generous sponsors, Irwin Mitchell along with BetVictor, who are the title sponsors of the two-day fixture. It is not long now until the Peter O’Sullevan Lambourn Open Day which takes place on Good Friday, 15 April. If you are interested in a chance to see behind the scenes at one of the UK’s major racehorse training centres, then I would highly recommend a visit. Tickets are available at the discounted price of £10 via our website or in Lambourn on the day. It’s certainly worth planning your Easter as our own Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend takes place on Saturday 16 (Racing Experience Day) and Sunday 17 April (Easter Sunday). We’ve two brilliant days of top-quality racing action and a whole range of activities for all the family to get involved with, including Ownership experiences, face-painting as well as trips and tours around the site on both days, along with some Easter fun. Finally, we would like to raise awareness of the RacingtohelpUkraine.UK appeal which will see a convoy of horseboxes leave Lambourn on 8 April and head over to Poland before heading onto the Ukraine border taking much needed supplies to the refugees as well as 100,000 horses which are currently starving. Initiated by Charlie Mann, please do visit the website for further information. Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our racegoers for joining us today hope you have an enjoyable and profitable afternoon and that we may see some of you back here again tomorrow. How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Please gamble responsibly. IN LOVING MEMORY OF STEVE BAKER Steve was a long serving and much respected member of BetVictor’s Horse Racing Team. Steve was a fantastic team player with a passion for both Horse and Greyhound Racing. He was a true asset to the business, a reliable, trusted, and vigilant worker. Steve was a standout in as much as his analytical brain would spot trends and angles that others would not. Most of all Steve will be remembered for his fantastic sense of humour and quick wittedness, a skill which is certainly needed in the trading department! Steve was never short of a clever retort or a one liner which would have the room laughing. He was also known for an uncanny ability to call a photo wrong as they went past the line, although wrong so many times we think he played on the joke! Steve will be sorely missed by all his work colleagues, many thanks to Newbury for allowing us to pay tribute by naming the second race today in his honour.

He was given a considerate ride over what was an inadequate trip on that occasion, and it was encouraging that he jumped with greater fluency than has often been the case. Animal has taken well to fences and is next on the list ahead of Keep Wondering and Sam Barton.
