Firstly, a very warm welcome to our first fixture of 2022 and Happy New Year from the whole team here at Newbury. Please be aware that Long Room Bar and Kitchen on the first floor of the Berkshire Stand is currently being refurbished and will be out of action until the Spring, although Annual Members will still be able to access the Lockinge and Carnarvon Rooms during this period. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, and if you would like to see what the planned changes will look like, the team on the Ground Floor reception will be able to show you the new revised layout. My thanks must go to today’s sponsors for their generous support; Racing TV, Nouveau Solutions, DJB Cleaning Ltd, British EBF as well as our own hotel, The Lodge and the Rocking Horse Nursery. Featuring some exciting young horses, the notable winners on this card in the past include subsequent graded winners; Flying Tiger, Finian’s Rainbow, Top Gamble and Saint Calvados so we are looking forward to another interesting afternoon of Jump racing. Looking forward, we are full steam ahead with 31 fixtures to choose from and a range of exciting new packages and hospitality offerings to tempt you all. Do check out our membership options, which mean you can attend all racedays for approximately £12.50 per raceday and with a host of benefits and reciprocal days at other racecourses included as part of your membership. One notable change for your diary this year is that our Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials will take place over the Easter Weekend on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April, and we will be introducing two days of Family Fun as well as the opportunity to learn more about the racing industry. We are also well underway with plans for Al Shaqab Lockinge Day on Saturday 14 May and the start of the summer season, with our popular Party in the Paddock dates returning on Saturday 16 July and Saturday 14 August, with both acts soon to be announced! Later this year, Oktoberfest will be returning for a second time, so get ready for some more Oompah and Bavarian cuisine. Thank you for choosing to spend your day with us. I hope you have an enjoyable and profitable time and that we will see many of you back here again on the 12 February for Betfair Super Saturday. Julian Thick Chief Executive

How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Please gamble responsibly. Nicky Henderson’s charge showed plenty despite being no match for a more speedily-bred rival in a Kempton bumper last March so he gets the nod to make a winning start over timber here. Maclaine and Hecouldbetheone are all open to improvement so they rate as obvious alternatives should the selection fail to fire.
