Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to MansionBet Challow Hurdle Day, featuring Newbury’s sole Grade 1 Jumps race. The MansionBet Challow Hurdle has produced a plethora of superstars including Bindaree, the great Denman and most recently, Champ, Thyme Hill and Bravemansgame and today’s race looks like another highly competitive renewal. Our thanks go to MansionBet for their generous support of today’s card which they sponsored for the first-time last year when it was run without spectators. We are so pleased to be welcoming crowds back today, which is traditionally our festive family themed raceday with plenty of activity on offer for all ages. You can find more details within the racecard but we would highly recommend a trip to a fence which meets ahead of races 3, 5 and 7 outside the Weighing Room and please make sure you pay a visit to meet retired racehorse, Danetime Panther who will be located up at the Eastern Entrance for the afternoon. How To Bet There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betfred Betting Shops, located on the ground ﬂoor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? A great photo opportunity is available with the chance to hop onto the winner’s podium and get a taste of what it feels like to win the MansionBet Challow Hurdle.
