Good afternoon and a warm welcome to the final day of our 2021 flat season, the Virgin Bet Flat Finale. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their generous support of today’s card: Virgin Bet, Mildmay Farm & Stud, Conundrum Consulting, Galloping to Give and Horris Hill School. For the first time, we are delighted to introduce top quality horse racing action with Oktoberfest running throughout today. Included as part of both Premier and Grandstand tickets, our Dubai Duty Free Grandstand has transformed into a Bavarian Beer Hall for two days, where thrilling action on course meets a celebration of Bavarian culture off course. Throughout the afternoon you can enjoy our live oompah band whilst sharing a Bavarian stein and traditional food with your family and friends. We are also pleased to welcome members of racing staff from local yards and studs to Newbury this afternoon, as part of Racing Staff Week. This celebrates the dedication and specialist skills of those who work in the racing industry – the stable staff, stud staff, racecourse staff, gallop people, stalls handlers, valets and all the others who play a vital role in the production of British horseracing. It also aims to raise the profile of Racing Welfare, the only charity that supports all of racing’s workforce. As our final day of the 2021 flat season, we would like to congratulate our winners of The Newburys, in association with Conundrum Consulting. Our Leading Trainer, Owner, Jockey and Apprentice will all be honoured throughout the afternoon, along with a special prize to the yard which has won the most Best Turned-Out awards over the last seven months. We are also delighted to award our Moment of the Season, voted by the racing public, to Fern O’Brien, whose winning ride on Valentino Dancer on 14 August beat out the rest of the shortlist with over 600 votes! Finally, I would like to thank all racegoers who have joined us across the summer. We are incredibly grateful for your continued support for Newbury Racecourse, and look forward to welcoming you back for the jumps season which kicks off on Thursday 4 November. We hope you have an enjoyable and profitable time.

Julian Thick Chief Executive
