Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the first of two days racing which will close our 2021 flat season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their generous support of today’s card: BetVictor, Hot to Trot Racing and West Berkshire Racing Club. For the first time, we are delighted to introduce top quality horse racing action with Oktoberfest, running across Friday 22 and Saturday 23 October. Included as part of both Premier and Grandstand tickets, our Dubai Duty Free Grandstand has transformed into a Bavarian Beer Hall for two days, where thrilling action on course meets a celebration of Bavarian culture off course. Throughout the afternoon you can enjoy our live oompah band whilst sharing a Bavarian stein and traditional food with your family and friends. We also have some fantastic racing on offer this afternoon, including the Rob Storton Lifetime in Racing Winner Supported by BetVictor Handicap. As part of Racing Staff Week, this race will celebrate the work of Rob, head person for Mick Channon, who has spent his whole working life in the industry. He started working for Mick Channon in December 2000 and has been there ever since, becoming an integral part of the team. Today is also the final race in the Racing Excellence Hands and Heels Apprentice Series. This is for jockeys who have ridden less than 10 winners at the start of the series, and is an important element of a young jockey’s race riding career development. The current leader is Alex Jary, who is riding in the race (5.35) – good luck to all! Finally, I would like to thank all racegoers who have joined us across the summer. We are incredibly grateful for your continued support for Newbury Racecourse, and look forward to welcoming you back for the jumps season, which kicks off o n T hursday 4 November. We hope you have an enjoyable afternoon and profitable time.

Julian Thick Chief Executive

William Haggas’ charge gets the vote. LibraTiger and Grenada should take a step forward from their debut efforts so may feature, in a race where the betting is likely to prove informative.
