A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.
Today’s feature race is the Virgin Bet Queen’s Cup, which features an exciting but competitive field After day’s e last years abandonment, Danny Tudhope still sits on two wins from his last two rides in the race and this ars hi year takes the ride once more on the 2023 winner, Wise Eagle. He’s 5lb higher than when he won the race es 5l two years ago and arrives here in top form. Wild Waves has been the subject of early money for Andrew th Balding and Oisin Murphy. The Kingsclere based trainer is enjoying things of late and is operating at a 24% strike over the last 14 days Aimeric has been on the go all winter and arrives here having been given a ally dangerous mark and could be the class angle in the field break since November. He lurks on a potentially an
DANIEL TUDHOPE d looking book of rides this afternoon. will be hoping to start strong, with a good loo e looking Livescore Bet Best Odds Daily Royal Mile We Dare To Dream has every chance in a competitive looking Livesco n well in our second race Handicap, while Lord Bertie looks set to run race. JASON HART was in fine form last rides. Jm Jungle carries a nice weight in our Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Scottish season and today has four nice V Sprint Cup Handicap and can go close for John & Sean Quinn. La Pulga is nicely weighted in our feature for Charlie Johnstone, he is another to have been given a break since November and has some nice back form. ave
KEVIN RYAN is currently tied with IAIN JARDINE at the top of the leaderboard but only sends the one horse on Saturday, which could well be a tip in itself! Mon Na Slieve runs in the Scottish Sprint Cup and is partnered by Andrew Mullen. He took a nice step forward when winning from a reduced mark over the same course and distance, so could be dangerous if finding further improvement Both of Iain Jardine’s runners go in our last, with Moonstone Bay making the weights under 5lb claimer Mohammed Tabti His other runner, Zaphea, carries just 8st 13lb and is partnered by Andew Mullen
1.50 THE LIVESCORE BET BEST ODDS DAILY ROYAL MILE HANDICAP
This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 76 to 95 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners ’ carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
2.25 THE VIRGIN BET EVERY SATURDAY MONEY BACK SILVER ARROW HANDICAP
Our next race is a seven-furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95 Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 95 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 90
3.00 THE VIRGIN BET DAILY PRICE BOOSTS SCOTTISH SPRINT CUP HANDICAP
This race is a five-furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races.
The feature race of the day on our return back to the flat is a one mile six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards, which always turns out to be a fabulous race As this is a heritage handicap, it will attract some high class horses but just like the last race, they concede plenty of weight to the lower rated rivals
4.10
This one-mile four and a half furlong maiden stakes is restricted to three-year-olds Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.
Our next contest this afternoon is a one mile one furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage
Our final race is a five furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 59 to 78 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 60 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated

Just like her namesake, Kate Nash, she is sure to be the sleeper hit of the race.

1.50pm: Castle Steward was an impressive winner of a maiden on soft ground at Hamilton last season. His subsequent effort in the listed Tankard Stakes at Pontefract was a poor show and something may have been a miss that day. If Karl Burke has got this colt right then he looks like one with a big chance. Zowal, who breaks from stall 3, is a course and distance winner and commands respect making his seasonal reappearance. Preference however is for Hot Dancer The son of Too Darn Hot may still be a maiden but has shown promise in his previous starts. The ground may have been too soft for him last time out and his effort against Tuscan Hills (now rated 103) at Thirsk last season looks solid form.
2.25pm: Waleefy has his chances here for trainer William Haggas. He finished 3/4 length behind Lethal Levi in August of last year Lethal Levi then went onto win the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup on his next start so a mark of 88 for Waleefy could be more than feasible Alzahir has won on his last two outings, and it looks like the wind-op has done the trick. He now runs off the higher mark of 94 but should still be able to run a big race and recent form looks a big positive for his chances. Dain Ma Nut In ran a nice 3rd last time out here and does have an eachway shout off the same mark again today.
3.00pm: American Affair was disappointing in the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup, having been well supported in the betting that day to go off 11/4 favourite. He ran too free that day and maybe the step back to 5 furlongs will be a boost to his chances. American Affair produced a career best performance to win the Portland handicap at Doncaster last season and a repeat of that effort would see him go close here. Mon Na Slieve won here over two weeks ago and is now off a mark of 82. He should be right up there with the pace and comes here on good recent form. Cover Up finished 4th of 15 runners in the Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint at Meydan. He carries top weight here but has shown plenty of promise against some good quality horses. There looks to be plenty of early pace in this race and this may suit the chances of Cover Up who may be produce his best efforts in the closing stages.
3:35pm: Wild Waves found it all too tough the St Leger at Doncaster last season. This should be an easier task, but it is a high-quality field that he is up against today. Aimeric, who has ran over this distance once before looks interesting and has run well fresh before. He will need to defy top weight but has been competing at a high level and running well against the likes of Burdett Road, Military Academy and Al Assay. Kihavah finished 2nd in the Ebor last year and was a nice winner in his subsequent run at Ayr. He is now off a flat mark of 102 but looks ready to make a bold effort here.
4:10pm: Ivatt finished 2nd in a Newmarket maiden last year Another big effort is expected as he steps up in trip today. Canavan is another who steps up in distance and the son of Kodi Bear is worth a market check. Caspi Star may have just run into a good one in Lady Vivian last time out and another chance is taken that the Charlie Johnston filly can land the spoils this time around.
4:45pm: There might be more to come from the bottom weight, Epidavros, who won at Hamilton over this trip and should handle the better ground than she had in her previous two starts. Zapphire breaks from stall 4, ran well in a Newmarket handicap last year, runs well on better ground and he could be a danger on seasonal reappearance for Julie Camacho.
5:17pm: Profitable Edge is a course and distance winner who should be up with the early speed. He may have needed that run last time out here at Musselburgh and is open to improvement. Another course and distance winner is Zarzyni, who was an eye-catching 3rd here last time out when the line came to soon just as he was really starting to get going. He looks a danger off the same mark of 78

ALIGN THE STARS was very progressive in handicaps last summer and on the evidence of a close-up third in Listed company 10 days ago, he looks set for another fruitful campaign. Wild Waves was last seen contesting the St Leger and returns for a yard in brilliant form, so he’s a major threat, with Kihavah completing the shortlist.

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet so privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to ma a recovery Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erec around a fallen horse.
