T TODAY’S TURE RACE FEATURE
Today’s feature race is the Join Racing TV Now Handicap Stakes at 5.10pm There are eleven runners set day’s featur to contest this race, with We Still Believe carrying top weight for Daragh Bourke and Jason Hart. The six test St a year old was a winner on his penultimate start, following it up with a fair fifth at Ayr. Expect another bold effort. Kinetic goes in search of the hattrick after two excellent wins in lesser company. He shoulders a 6lb t. Kineti i penalty but cannot be discounted in such form Tilsitt has been running well of late, managing a minor n placing at Carlisle last time out. Continues to be well treated by the handicapper and finds himself with the experienced David Allan on board.

TRAINERS TO WATCH
With top course trainer Karl Burke absent, JIM GOLDIE will have five chances to close the gap on the leader He is double handed in the Bob Veitch 90th Birthday Bash Handicap Stakes (DIV I), with INANNA and CUBAN ROCK representing the yard. SOUNDS OF IONA (3.10) is no stranger to these types of races and brings plenty of experience Amie Waugh takes off a valuable 5lb and she ought to go very close. Third placed trainer LIAM BAILEY has three of his own chances this afternoon. The pick could well be DOOMSDAY (3.40), with 7lb claimer Tom Kiely-Marshall doing the steering

2.40 THE BOB VEITCH 90TH BIRTHDAY BASH HANDICAP STAKES (DIV I)
3.10 THE BOB VEITCH 90TH
BIRTHDAY BASH HANDICAP STAKES (DIV II)
This one mile contest for horses aged three, four and five-years-old is a maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career
2.10 THE AAB GROUP & SALLYPORT COMMERCIAL FINANCE NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES
A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far. Quite simply, the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry. This particular one mile race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 65
This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
This is the second division of Race 1. Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run, which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority allows the race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.
This is a one mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 55 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 50
4.10 THE LENS SELF STORAGE 60TH ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP STAKES
(DIV II)
This is the second division of Race 1. Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run, which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority allows the race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.
4.40 THE END HUNGER WITH EAST LOTHIAN FOODBANK HANDICAP STAKES
This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.
5.10 THE JOIN RACING TV NOW HANDICAP STAKES
This is a one mile, four furlongs and about 104 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a mi nimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

2. You can play with Tote at one of the many betting stations around the racecourse, Tote offers pool betting rather than ‘prices’ or ‘odds’ offered in the betting ring. The Tote Guarantee you can be safe in the knowledge that they’ll never pay less than the price the horse wins at, and if the pool payout is bigger, you’ll get that.
3. Place bets from the comfort of your seat by visiting Tote.co.uk, the Tote Guarantee still applies and all new customer receive a welcome offer
4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.

- Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race is off
- Keep your bet receipt safe You will need this to collect your winnings
- Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’.
- Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards Enquiry’.

HORSE CARE AT MUSSELBURGH
At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to mak a recovery Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erec around a fallen horse.
