TODAY’S FEATURE TURE RACE
Thee feature race today is at 3.20pm, the Watch Racing Tv Now Hand Handicap Chase. Nine are declared for this twoo mile, seven and a half furlong chase including three for top co course trainer Lucinda Russell. Return Fire, So They Say and Domandlouis will all be aiming to add to Russell’s Rus eight winners here this term. Grey Skies has been in consistent form over the last 12 months and the eight-year-old trained by Donald McCain has form figures of 42 from his two runs so far this season and he’ll be looking to go one better this time around. Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero have been in ggood form recently and they run Duke Of Deception.
JOCKEYS TO WATCH H DEREK FOX will be aiming to extend his lead at the top of the top jockey ckey leaderboard here at Musselburgh. Fox has six chances to add to his tally as he is set to ride Josie Alice, Jem m In Em, So They Say, Say Barney Stinson, Izzy’s Champion and Don’t Look Back. BRIAN HUGHES is two behindd Fox and he’ll also have six rides rid to try and cut that deficit including Copper Fox, Barrons Land andd Grey Skies. HENRY BROOKE has been in good fo form over the past two weeks, operating at a 19% strike rate and he’ll be hoping his three rides can boost that num number. He is on board Spanish Hustle, Dr Shirocco and Sean Og.
TRAINERS TO WATCH LUCINDA RUSSELL has plenty of chances to extend her lead as top trainer at Musselburgh. As mentioned in the feature race, she has three chances. She has had six winners in the last two weeks and connections will be confident of adding to that here. IAIN JARDINE will need to hope some of his six runners can cut the deficit to Russell. He has Ice Day and Snow Shepherdess in the first and Bashful and La Quarite in the final race of the day.
RACE DESCRIPTIONS 1.45 THE VISIT IRISH BLOODSTOCK SALES WITH ITM MARES’ MAIDEN HURDLE RACE The term ‘maiden’ inspires thoughts of damsels in distress but in horse racing terms it takes on a different meaning. When a horse is referred to as a maiden, be it a colt or a filly, it simply means that they have yet to win a race. Many of the runners aged four-years-old and upwards mares only in this two miles and four furlongs race will still be inexperienced over hurdles and almost certainly improve for the racecourse experience that they gain today.
2.15 THE GEORGE CRAWFORD LEGACY TRUST HANDICAP CHASE This is a two miles and seven and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 100. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170.
2.45 THE JOIN TOTE.CO.UK THE CREAM OF THE CROP HANDICAP HURDLE RACE This is a three miles handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 115. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 115 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 110.
3.20 THE WATCH RACING TV NOW HANDICAP CHASE This is a two miles and seven and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 120. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb.
3.50 THE EVERY RACE LIVE ON RACING TV NOVICES’ HANDICAP HURDLE RACE This two miles and four furlongs handicap hurdle race has been designed for novice four-year-olds and upwards which are rated from 0 to 100. In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st 2lb so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden. The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage.
4.20 THE RACING TV PROFITS RETURNED TO RACING HANDICAP CHASE This is a two miles, four and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 100. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 100 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 95.
4.50 THE 100% RACING TV PROFITS BACK TO RACING HANDICAP HURDLE RACE This is a two mile handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 100.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. Can be given little or no chance.
PLACING A BET HAVING A FLUTTER IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE FUN OF COMING RACING. 1. PICK YOUR WINNER!
Many people select a horse based on it’s name or jockey colours or go to the Parade Ring to view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. WHERE TO PLACE A BET
1. In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. 2. You can play with Tote at one of the many betting stations around the racecourse, Tote offers pool betting rather than ‘prices’ or ‘odds’ offered in the betting ring. The Tote Guarantee you can be safe in the knowledge that they’ll never pay less than the price the horse wins at, and if the pool payout is bigger, you’ll get that. 3. Place bets from the comfort of your seat by visiting Tote.co.uk, the Tote Guarantee still applies and all new customer receive a welcome offer. 4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.
3. PLACE YOUR BET.
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then Cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet. - Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race is off. - Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings. - Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. - Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards Enquiry’. GOOD LUCK!
